Lenovo ThinkPad X300 is ultraportable and ultra green.
In keeping with Apple’s MacBook Air and Toshiba’s Portege 500, Lenovo have created the ThinkPad X300. This is the first Lenovo notebook to receive EPEAT’s gold environmental rating for low energy consumption and minimum environmental impact.
Features
The ThinkPad is ultra-slim and ultra portable with Solid State storages drive that has no moving parts. Though the 64GB drive has less storage capacity than most notebook hard drives this allows it a faster start-up, it also uses less power and the drives are more durable than conventional ones. Its other green points include energy saving low-voltage processors, LED backlit, mercury-free displays, arsenic-free glass and 90% recyclable packaging. It has an integrated DVD burner, which is not common in an ultraportable and easy internet connectivity. This hardy notebook doesn’t have to be handled with kid gloves. Its cover is a combination of carbon fiber and glass fiber (think Formula 1 racing cars), give it added strength as well as a lighter weight. No need to worry if you’re sloppy with your coffee, the X300 has a spill resistant keyboard with conveniently placed drainage holes designed to direct spills to the bottom of the system where they can do the least damage. What’s missing? There is no media card reader, expansion port or ExpressCard.
Performance
One of the greenest notebooks on the market, the X300 consumes 25% less energy than other models in the X series. It features Intel’s Core 2 Duo SL7100 processor which makes it perform on demand everyday general use but is not really a machine for gamers. It has a battery life of between 4 and 10 hours.
