Games Included with Kindle 3

Hidden within the Amazon Kindle 3 are two games, Minesweeper and GoMoku. You can access these games by holding down Alt + Shift and then press the M button to go to Minesweeper. Hold down the G button to go to GoMoku.

Minesweeper

If you have ever played Minesweeper on the computer, it is almost the same game. The object of the game is to find hidden mines on a grid that is made up of squares in different difficulty levels. There are three difficulty levels, Easy, Normal and Difficult. If you think a square is a mine, you place a letter M on the grid. You press a square navigation button where you think there is not a mine. If you are correct, a number appears. This number indicates the number of mines this square comes in contact with. This gives you a clue as to where the mine is located. If you are wrong, a cross appears in the square and the words You Lost! appear on the screen.

GoMoku

GoMoku is a computerized version of the Connect 4 game. Instead of red and blue circles, in this game you use circles and crosses. In the rules of this game, you have to connect five items in a row to win the game instead of 4. You can press the N button to start a new game at any time.

These two games are not complicated or challenging, but can be fun once you find them. They are easy to understand and can be a good break from reading, or if you are just in the mood to play a game. The Kindle is limited to text and graphics, and you won’t find graphical games for it. This does not mean you can’t find good games for the Kindle. There are many games that do not require a lot of graphics to make them fun to play.

Connect with Wi-Fi

Before you can put games on a Kindle, you need to connect to a Wi-Fi network so you can get the games from the Kindle store. To do this, perform the following steps:

Press the Home button, and then press the Menu button.

Select Settings by moving the 5-way-controller down, and then press the controller to select.

Select View next to Wi-Fi Settings. A list of available Wi-Fi networks will display on the screen. This may take a few minutes.

Select Connect next to the network you want to connect to. You may have to enter the Wi-Fi password. This password is the password you set up when you set up the Wi-Fi network. Your Kindle will automatically connect to the network you selected.

Use the SYM key to enter numbers or symbols, and use the Shift key for capital letters.

Once you have successfully connected to the Wi-Fi network, your kindle will automatically connect to it each time it detects a signal from that network. Look in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and find the network indicator symbol to make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi.

Connect with Free 3G

If your Kindle includes Free 3G, you are automatically connected to Wi-Fi. You should see a 3G network indicator (3G, EDGE, or GPRS) in the upper right corner of the Kindle screen if you are already connected wirelessly.

Download Games from the Kindle Store

There are over 100 games available for the Kindle on the Amazon website at the Kindle store, and some of the games are even free. You basically put games on the Kindle in the same way that you put e-books on the device.

Press the Menu button and select Shop in Kindle Store to start downloading games on your Kindle.

Browse through the Kindle store using the d-pad buttons. Select the center button to select any Kindle games you want to look at closer, and think you may want to install on your Kindle. Some games are free, but other games do cost money.

When you find a game that you want to put on your Kindle, highlight the Buy button, and then click the d-pad’s center button. The game will automatically download to your Kindle device, and it will be charged to the credit/debit card that is linked to your Amazon account, unless the game was free.

Click on the game title to open the game and start playing it. The list of game titles will show on the left side of the Kindle screen.
