MP3 Player Review: RCA M4202
Overview
The RCA M4202 features a 1.8-inch LCD screen and is set up similar to an iPod with a circular menu button on the lower center of the body. In fact, it is a direct competitor, holding up to 4GB of music, but it is also a lot cheaper than that model, usually costing less than $100 in 2011.

The M4202 has the ability to play different types of media, including music, JPEG images and videos. It even comes with a built-in FM radio. It has a blue outer casing and all of the controls are located on the front. The location of the controls allows you to scroll through the menu using a single hand.
The player weighs 1.3 ounces, making it extremely lightweight. It has both a USB and headphone jack. It also comes with its own carrying case.

The provided headphones offer good sound, but they can be uncomfortable so you may have to upgrade. The battery lasts a long time before you need to charge it, nearly 30 hours.
The player comes with different features, including the ability to add a screensaver to your screen. It even has a hold button. You can record music directly from the FM radio station. This player also supports audio books.
Those that cannot stand Apple iTunes will love that they do not have to use it. You simply drag and drop your music onto your player.
Cons (3 out of 5)
This player does have its issues. Many people experiencing freezing, meaning that you have to restart your device constantly. Another issue is that you have to wade through all of your music to find songs. There is no easy way to navigate to a particular track.
This RCA MP3 player does not work well with all versions of Windows, either. For example, Vista may require you to keep reformatting the device when you plug it in. Another issue is that you cannot upload videos to the player unless you reformat them using the RCA software program.
Worth the Money? (4 out of 5)
While there are some issues with the RCA MP3 Player M4202, it is still not too bad, especially for such an inexpensive price. You can store a great deal of songs on it, and the battery life lasts you an extremely long time. The screen is extremely large, making it perfect for watching videos and viewing images.
As mentioned earlier, the major issue with this player is that it sometimes freezes during operation or when you are loading content on to the player. However, if you are willing to put up with some minor quirks, then this RCA MP3 player is a good alternative to the Apple iPod.
