Why Not Sync Your iPod with iTunes?

While most people love their iPod, the same cannot be said about iTunes. iTunes can be a cumbersome program, especially if you have other programs running. Plus, it takes a while to sync your iPod to iTunes, and sometimes you just don’t want to waste that much time.

But, you don’t always need to be locked into the iTunes. You can download media to your iPod without iTunes, including movies. You just need the right steps in getting movies onto iPod without iTunes.

Yet, why would you want to avoid iTunes? Well, as previously mentioned, it can take a long time to sync an iTunes library with your iPod, especially if you have an exceptionally large amount of music, videos and podcasts in your library.

Plus, there are limitations to the iTunes library. It can be hard to find items in your library. The iTunes library is organized okay, but it’s not perfect in any sense of the word. You almost have to know what you’re looking for to find it. And, the genre folders rarely reflect the actual music genre implied by the folder name.

Change iPod to Removable Hard Drive

Now, let’s look at your choices for alternative ways for getting movies onto your iPod without iTunes. The first thing that you need to do is change your iPod to a removable hard drive. This allows you to add media from any computer without having to add iTunes to that computer. To do this, follow these instructions:

1. Plug in your iPod and wait for iTunes to open. Or, open iTunes up yourself.

2. Next, go to Edit and then Preferences.

3. Select the iPod tab.

4. Go into the Music tab.

5. Find the Manually manage songs and playlists option, and select the checkbox next to it.

6. Hit OK.

This also stops your iPod from automatically syncing every time that you plug it into your computer.

Alternative iPod Media Managers

Next, select another media syncing device manager. There are plenty of these programs available on the Internet, and generally they are free. In fact, you should only go with the free programs; you don’t need to purchase these at all.

The first one worth mentioning is Media Monkey. It’s a Windows-based program that allows you to transfer music, movies, podcasts, album art, etc. to your iPod without iTunes. It also organizes your media better than iTunes.

You can also sync your iPhone and iPod touch with this program. But, it does require you to have iTunes to do this. If you already have this, then you don’t need to worry about it. If not, download iTunes.exe and rename it to .zip. Then, extract the following files: QuickTime.msi and AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi. Now, you can use the program without iTunes.

Another good program is Floola. This program allows you to sync any type of video or audio files. It also manages your media better than iTunes. The standout feature of this program is that it allows you to drag and drop media to your iPod from anyone’s computer even if they don’t have iTunes.
