The Nook Color is Made for More than Just Reading

The Nook Color was not made for just reading eBooks - it can also be used to display pictures. Wondering how? To move pictures from your PC to the Nook color is not difficult. It just requires a few simple steps.

Transfering Pictures from Your PC

Begin by connecting the Nook Color to your computer via the USB cable. Connect one end of the cable into the port on your Nook Color, and connect the other end into a free USB port on the front or back of your computer. If you have a laptop, the USB port may be on the side.

Click the Start button in the lower left corner and click Computer. You should see your Nook Color listed in the Computer window as a removable disk with the name MyNookcolor. Double-click this to open it.

Double-click the My Files folder. Drag and drop any pictures that you have on your computer to the Pictures folder on your Nook Color device. The Nook Color can only read pictures that have a JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP extension.

Click the Back arrow in the upper left corner until you see your Nook Color listed as a removable disk again. Right-click the Nook Color and select Eject so you can disconnect your Nook Color from your computer properly. When you get a message that it is safe to eject, disconnect the USB cable from your Nook and from your computer.

Find Pictures on Nook Color

To navigate to your pictures that you just transferred to your Nook Color, select Extra from the Home screen and press Gallery. All of the pictures that you just transferred will be listed here.

If you want to set your Home screen wallpaper with one of the pictures, simply tap and hold the picture, and then select Change wallpaper. The wallpaper will automatically change to the picture you selected.

Picture Slideshow

You can also use the pictures on your Nook Color to do a picture slideshow.

Tap Extras at the bottom of the Nook Color screen, and then tap Gallery. You will see a display of all of the pictures on your Nook Color.

Tap the first picture in the display, or wherever you want the slideshow to start, and then tap Slideshow at the bottom left side of the screen. The slideshow will then start.

Note that the slideshow will not work from Files for some reason, and will only work if you start it from Extras and then Gallery.

If you want to fast forward to the next picture in the slideshow, tap the right side of the screen. If you want to speed up the slideshow, tap the right side of the screen two times quickly and it will speed it up.

Download Pictures from the Internet

You can also download pictures from the Internet and use them as the wallpaper for your Nook Color.

Turn on your Nook and either enter the password or use your finger to slide the bar to arrive at the Home screen. Press the Center button on the bottom of the page, and then press Web. You will need to be connected to WiFi.

Tap the URL bar and navigate to your favorite search engine, such as Google or Bing. Press Images when the page loads.

Enter the keyword you want to search for, and then click Search. Browse through the pictures and find a picture you want to download to your Nook Color. Tap and hold the picture for a few seconds. Click View from the menu that opens. Tap the picture again and this time press Save. The download screen opens up after you press Save. You can close this out because your image will already be downloading.

When the image finishes downloading, power off the Nook Color to transfer the image you just downloaded to your gallery.

Turn the Nook Color back on. Press the Center button at the bottom of the home screen, tap Extras, and then click Gallery. You will see a list of the pictures on your Nook Color. Find the picture you just downloaded, and tap it.

Select Wallpaper from the menu. You will be asked to crop the picture if it is not the correct size for your Nook Color. When you are finished, press Save. The picture will then become the wallpaper on your Nook Color. Click the N button at the bottom of the device.
