1. Finding Out the Rules for Recording the Webinar

Some webinars are only available to particular audiences or students. Before you record a webinar you are attending, you will want to be sure that you have permission to do so. If you cannot find information about recording the webinar on the information site, ask permission. You may find that the webinar leader is open to recording, or that you can record the webinar so long as you do not distribute it. If the webinar is being held for training purposes, it is very possible that you will be able to record it without a problem.

2. Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is a popular tool used to record webinars. You will need to have Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher in order to perform this function. You will need to make sure that the computer you are using to record the webinar on has a sound card. Once you have done this, you will need to set up the program properly. To set up Windows Media Player to record your webinar, you will need to go into the “tools” section of the “organizer control panel” for Windows Media Player. Once you are in there, select “recording” from the menu. This will then enable you to set up the recording functions of Windows Media Player as you desire and record in your desired format. Once you are ready to record the webinar, simply click “record.” This is possibly the simplest way to record webinars.

3. Go To Meeting

Go To Meeting is just one of many tools that individuals use when casting a webinar. This program also allows you to record your webinars. When you record a webinar using Go To Meeting, you will also be recording all the screen activity including anything that was shared by other users during the webinar. This can be great if you are recording the webinar for those who could not make the meeting. You will want to make sure that you’ve already set up Windows Media Player to record. When recording with Go To Meeting, only one file is created, even if you start and stop recording mutliple times.

4. Setting the Quality of Your Webinar Recording

Another thing to consider when pondering how to record a webinar is that you will want to be sure that you capture as much quality when it comes to the audio as is possible. Make sure that your microphone is plugged in, or if you are using a telephone for the webinar that you patch it into your computer. Speak as clearly as possible and make sure that there is some space between your mouth and the recording device. Encourage other webinar participants to also speak clearly. If you cannot understand what someone says, ask them to repeat what they said, but slower - otherwise, you may find that you will not be able to understand what when listening to the webinar.

5. Explain Everything

Finally, when making your webinar recording keep in mind that when you are listening to the webinar later, or when someone who was not present is listening to the webinar, it will not be clear why certain actions are being taken unless you have said why. For example, if the webinar’s purpose is to give a software demo, while those participating directly in the webinar might understand what is going on through context, you will still want to speak about what you are doing. Also, make sure you are slow in your mouse movements - sometimes we get so used to clicking in a certain way that we do things without thinking about it. Be sure that anyone viewing your webinar can discern what you are doing with each click of the mouse.
