It’s amazing how many football-related desktop publishing projects you can come up with. From Super Bowl invitations to office pools, a fan can have a lot of fun and support a favorite team with just a few minutes at the computer. Having a couple of football fonts can help those projects along.

The Collegiate Black FLF font actually comes in several varieties, all of which are available for free. The font is fairly complete, missing only accents and some rarer symbols. Not only could it be used for the headline on your sports projects, but you could even set full blocks of text in it. However, Collegiate Black FLF can get a little overwhelming in large batches — like seeing a full defensive line headed your way.

While Sporto doesn’t actually include numbers, it does offer some great accents for a football-related projects. Each letter corresponds with the image of a helmet with the logo of a popular football team. Not all teams are included unfortunately, but you’ll still find a good mix of images you can use to accentuate a bracket or watch party invitation.

If you need a fun headline font, BJ Football may fit the bill. Letters in this font are displayed in football helmets, while numbers are shown on the back of football jerseys. Unfortunately, BJ Football is a fairly limited font: it has only uppercase letters, numerals and a few punctuation marks. However, it can be perfect for highlighting important information or acting as an accent.

Another headline font, KR Football Fun focuses more on the actual football than helmets or jerseys. Footballs accentuate the sans serif characters for a sporty appearance. However, this font offers only capital letters. While it may meet your headline needs, it isn’t ideal for setting larger blocks of text. You can match it easily with another rounded sans serif font for text-intensive projects, however.

Many sports fonts can also provide you with a nice touch for your football projects. One word of warning, though: take a close look at a font before downloading it, because many ‘football’ fonts are actually soccer fonts. Because soccer is referred to as football in most countries besides the U.S, many font designers use both names to describe their creations. So check out your fonts to make sure they’re exactly what you want.
