Nokia X3-02 Preview

Despite being hammered by Apple and Android in the high end smartphone market, Nokia still maintains a strong grip in the low end smartphone and the feature phone market. It has the highest sales in those segments where it has virtually no serious competition.

The Nokia X3-02 is a new feature phone by Nokia which has a very innovative design. It is the first phone by Nokia which features a touchscreen display embedded in the standard candybar design. It is being marketed as the “Touch and Type” phone as you can do both - use the touchscreen display as well as use the physical keypad. The Nokia X3-02 is also the first S40 device with a touchscreen. It also sports a stylish design and is packed with features like a 5 MP camera, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and lots more.

Design

The Nokia X3-02 has a very stylish design. It is quite compact and has dimensions of 106.2 x 48.4 x 9.6 mm and weighs about 78 gms. It has the standard candybar design but comes with a nice twist - a 2.4 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The touchscreen is a resistive one, but that is expected in this price range.

User Interface

The Nokia X3-02 sports the familiar S40 UI optimized for touch devices. It is very intuitive and easy to use and has nice graphics and animations. It is also very fast and responsive, though it doesn’t have native 3rd party apps. It supports only Java apps and games and supports the Ovi Store. It has 50 MB internal memory and comes with support for up to 32 GB microSD cards.

Multimedia

The Nokia X3-02 has a 5 MP camera with an image capture resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. It doesn’t have autofocus or a flash. It can also record VGA videos at 18 FPS. It also has a 3.5 mm audio jack, so you can use your own headset. The 2.4 inch display isn’t really suited for video playback, but you can still view 3GP and MP4 videos if needed. It also has a stereo FM radio with RDS.

Connectivity

The Nokia X3-02 has almost all the basic connectivity options like GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP. It also offers microUSB 2.0 connectivity. It doesn’t have GPS, but in this price range, that’s understandable. It comes with Twitter and Facebook apps and you can also install browsers like Opera Mini and chat clients like eBuddy.

It is powered by a standard Li-ion 860 mAh battery with a rated talktime of about 5.5 hours.

Conclusion

The Nokia X3-02 is one of the best budget feature phones in this price range. If you want good music playback, a good camera and a touchscreen display with a stylish design, it could be the phone for you.
