Coby MP826 Overview
The Coby MP826 4GB touchscreen MP3 player is more than your standard MP3 player. While you can view videos on most MP3 players, it is usually not the overall focus of the player. This player, however, is especially geared for viewing photos and videos. In addition, it packs many features into its very small price: less than $50 in 2011.
Body (5 out of 5)
The body of the Coby MP826 is quite sleek. Since it is a touchscreen, there are no controls on the front, which also gives you plenty of screen (2.8 inches with 242 by 480 resolution) to work with. The player is black with silver accents, and it has a stylish appearance. You can view the LCD screen
either vertically or horizontally, similar to your standard smartphone. This is a major selling point for those that want to watch videos and can’t stand the small screens on standard MP3 players.
It comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Depending on the version, you receive 4, 8 or 16 GB of memory. It also comes with an integrated rechargeable Lithium polymer battery.
Battery Life/Support (4 out of 5)
For such a low price, you would expect Coby to sacrifice battery life, but they do not. You have up to 25 hours of playing time before you have to recharge the battery, which is quite a lot for a budget player. To recharge the player, you simply need to plug it into your computer via a USB cord.
The player supports a few video formats: MPG, MP4, AVI, VOB, FLV and WMV. If your video is in any other format, you will have to convert it before you can view it on your player.
Sound Quality (5 out of 5)
The MP826 provides you with good sound, and it has a simple interface that is easy for new users to learn.
Cons (3 out of 5)
The only major downside to this player is that it is only compatible with Windows-based systems, including Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7. If you are a Mac and iTunes fan, then this is not the player for you.
Another issue is that not all computers are compatible with the computer program that comes with the player. You may have to find an alternative way to access your media. If your computer does not recognize the player, make sure that the player is off before you plug it into your computer.
Bang for Buck (5 out of 5)
Overall, the Coby MP826 4GB touchscreen MP3 player is easy to use and the audio is great. It is very inexpensive without sacrificing items like battery life and memory. In addition, the screen is amazing for both photos and videos and it orients to your position.
As mentioned earlier, its major downside is that it is not compatible with Macs, but PC users will find this a very inexpensive alternative to the Apple iPod.
