Got a Dead Battery?

SanDisk MP3 players are inexpensive alternatives to the Apple iPod. These players are generally small and hold between 2 and 8 GB of memory. The batteries on these units are designed to last for the total life of the media player. Nonetheless, it may start to fail. This means that it won’t charge or hold a charge for long.

So, you are left with two choices. Either you get a new one, or you figure out how to change the battery. The latter is the cheaper way to fix the player, but it also requires some leg work from you. So, how to change a battery on a SanDisk MP3 player?

Changing the Battery

First, turn off the player. You don’t want to shock yourself. Then flip the player over and locate the screws on the back of it. There are usually four, but the number may vary by the type of SanDisk player that you have.

These are always Phillips screws so you need a very small Phillips screwdriver. The most difficult part of this process may be finding a Phillips screwdriver with a small enough head. Computer parts stores often sell this type of screwdriver as part of a computer toolkit.

Take off the back panel of the SanDisk. If it won’t easily come off, use a pry tool and gently lift off the back panel. Locate the old battery, and take it out. You can now use the old battery to order a new one. Use the size and make for guidance. You will more than likely have to order the battery from a SanDisk parts dealer.

Insert the new battery, and verify that you have it properly oriented. Push it down so that it doesn’t stick out. Put the back cover back on the player.

Avoid touching any other components, or you may damage the player.

Charging the Battery

Now, you need to charge the battery again. To charge the battery with your computer, use a USB cord, and follow these instructions:

  • Insert the USB cable into both the player and the computer.
  • You should see a screen popup that indicates that the player is connected to the computer.
  • Let the player fully charge, and remove the cable when it’s done charging.

If you don’t want to charge the SanDisk Player with a computer, you can use an AC power adapter. This is especially useful if you are out of town or don’t have access to a computer. Your SanDisk player may come with an AC power adapter. If not, purchase one from an online vendor. You still need your USB ca cable for this process. To charge your player with an AC adapter, follow the below instructions:

  • Plug the USB cable into both the adapter and the player.
  • Insert the adapter into a power source like a wall outlet.
  • Let the player charge, and then remove it from the charger when you are done.

After you know how to change a battery on a SanDisk MP3 player, you always need to charge it. Then, you can use your player as you normally would.
