The answer to how to turn on the Zune 80GB display is as simple as unlocking the device and waking it up. If this is your first use, make sure you’ve already charged the battery, or it won’t turn on.
First, press the “hold” button, located at the top of the device. Then, press the “play/pause” button, located on the top right side of the device, until the screen comes to life. The display is now active!

Sometimes the Zune display won’t come on when you want it to. Maybe you’re pressing the wrong buttons, or perhaps it’s locked. Using these troubleshooting tips, you can answer pretty much all your needs regarding how to turn on the Zune 80GB display.
Always check that your device is in the unlocked position, or the display won’t turn on, regardless. If it is locked, unlock it.
Also, check if the battery is low. If you can’t see the display, you might not know if it is low, especially if it isn’t playing any music. Charge the Zune 80GB device for at least two hours before attempting to reset the device, as it might be as simple as a low battery.
Next, see if you can use any of the other controls. If these are locked up, you might need to reset your device. You can do a soft reset on the device without actually deleting any of the materials on your device.
Resetting Your Zune 80GB Device
If you can’t get the unlock button or the recharge function to bring your display back to life, try resetting the device.
Slide the “hold” button into the unlocked position. Next, press the back button, located on the top left side of the device. Hold it while pressing the top center of the Zune pad. Hold these two buttons together until the display lights up.
In most cases, one of these solutions should work to help you determine how to turn on the Zune 80GB display. Unless the whole device is malfunctioning, you shouldn’t actually have to wipe the Zune clean, firmware and all, and start off with a fresh slate.
Avoid resetting the device unless you really need to. You might also try sliding the “Hold” locking switch back and forth to kind of “wake up” the lock mechanism, which really only keeps you from inadvertently skipping songs and turning the volume up high.
To keep the battery charged and prevent the need to restart your device, turn your Zune off when finished using it; don’t just put it to sleep. To turn the device off, press the “Back” button at the top left of the device and the “Down” button on the bottom of the Zune pad.
