Do Not Reset an iPod Nano if…..

Do not reset the iPod Nano if it is still connected to your computer and displaying any of the following messages:

  • Connected, Eject before disconnecting
  • Sync in Progress, Please wait
  • Do not disconnect

If your iPod is displaying any of these messages, it needs to be ejected from iTunes before you reset it. If the sync is in progress, wait for it to finish before you eject it. To eject the iPod Nano, select the iPod under Devices on the left side and then click the Eject button in the bottom right. Wait for the message OK to Disconnect and then remove the iPod from the USB cable. You can then learn how to reset an iPod Nano. If the iPod is frozen, it is okay to go ahead and reset it.

How Do You Reset an iPod Nano 6th Generation?

To reset an iPod Nano 6th Generation, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button simultaneously for approximately eight seconds, or until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. If you don’t see the logo the first time, repeat the step until you do.

If this did not reset your iPod, connect the iPod to your computer via the USB cable and try the steps above again. Make sure your computer is turned on and not in sleep mode.

How Do You Reset an iPod Nano with Click Wheel (5th, 4th and 3rd Generations)?

To reset an iPod Nano with a click wheel, slide the Hold switch to on and then turn it off again. Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons simultaneously for approximately six to eight seconds until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. If this does not work the first time, repeat the step. If it still will not reset, lay the iPod Nano on a flat service after you toggle the Hold switch. Ensure that your finger is only pressing the Select button and not touching any other part of the click wheel. Also, ensure that you press the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.

If the above step did not reset your iPod Nano, connect it to your computer via the USB cable and try the steps again. Make sure your computer is turned on and not in sleep mode.

Additional Troubleshooting Tips

It’s easy to reset an iPod Nano, but sometimes this will not fix the problem you are having. There are some additional troubleshooting tips you can do to solve the problem. In some cases, you may have to do a hard reset.

If the iPod will not turn on or the display is blank, check the Hold switch on the top of the iPod Nano and make sure it is not in the locked position.

The battery on the iPod may not be charged. Connect your iPod to the computer via the USB cable, turn it on and check the screen. In some cases, if the iPod is completely dead it takes approximately 30 minutes for your computer to recognize it.
