Cleaning Video Projectors Tips - How to Clean Your Video Projector System
Page content

When you get a video projector you may not consider the cleanings that will need to be done on a regular basis. Unless, of course, you enjoy having your picture quality ruined by a coat of dust, or even worse, smudges. If you want to get your system to be squeaky clean, then these steps can help. We will break it down piece by piece. That means the right instructions for the projector case, the lens, and the screen. By the time you are done, you will have a total system cleaning done.

The Projector Case

When it comes to the projector case, the biggest problem that you will have is dust. Like so many other stationary electronic devices, a projector box will collect dust like crazy. If you need to get the dust off without adding any dust to the inside of the case, follow these steps:

1. Get set up in a comfortable and well lit area with electronic wipes, cotton swabs, and the projector box.

2. Starting from the center of the case wipe outward to the edge of the case. When you wipe near the area around the vents do not wipe over the vents with a used wipe- avoid them. Use your nail to run the wipe in any case seams.

3. Clean the vents with a cotton swab. Use a sideways scooping motion to catch the dust without allowing it to fall into the slots.

4. Now, if you fail that you need to wet the tips of cotton swab with one of your wipes and run it between the vents on the flat surfaces. As before, work from the center to the edge.

Now your projector case is as clean as the day you bought it.

The Projector Lens

Your lenses cleanliness will most directly affect the quality of your image. To clean the lens, just follow these steps.

The best way to do this is with air:

1. Go to the store and get an air bulb. You can go to a camera store or just the baby aisle of the local drug store.

2. Bring the bulb very close to the lens without touching it.

3. Give several firm puffs of air working in a clockwise pattern.

Note: Do not use compressed electronics air to do this. Those cans release a small amount of fluid with the air which can spot on your lens.

The Projector Screen

If you sprung for the extra money to buy a matching screen, instead of just projecting onto the wall then you will want to protect that investment. Keeping your screen clean is simple. Just follow these easy steps.

You may be tempted to use a product like Windex on your screen. Don’t do it. They all leave a residue that will degrade your screen quality. If your screen is only dusty, wipe it with a dry rag. Work from the center to the edges. Ideally that rag should be a lint free cloth, like the kind used for electronics or glasses.

If you already have a spot on the screen use plain water, at room temperature. Dampen a corner of the cloth with it and lightly rub the spot. Then gently buff dry with a dry corner.

Now your system will be clean and your picture will be clear. Enjoy your viewing experience.
