Slap Chop Review: Does This As Seen on TV Product Really Work?
Page content

The Slap Chop is advertised as being the “ultimate chopper” but before you buy one you should read this Slap Chop review. The Slap Chop is supposed to be able to quickly chop vegetables, fruits and nuts, making food preparation easier and less messy. Does it really work, though?

Overall, the ideas behind the Slap Chop are good. The W-shaped blades leave less open space for the food to get stuck in, as opposed to the X-shaped blades of other similar products. Also, the Slap Chop is easy to clean with your dishwasher or by hand with the way it opens up to give you easy access to the blades. My main problem with the Slap Chop is the materials used to make it. The plastic seems to be very flimsy and the blades are too thin. The folded sheet metal of the blades can trap debris in difficult and dangerous places to get at.

If used gently, your Slap Chop might last 1 to 2 years. It is not for people who cook a lot and want an easy way to quickly chop their food items.

Performance (3 out of 5)

In order for the Slap Chop to work as advertised, you have to slap it pretty hard. A slap that is too light will result in your vegetables, fruit or nuts not getting cut all of the way through and sometimes the food will get stuck on the blades. Potatoes and tomatoes are the hardest vegetables to cut right with the Slap Chop. Tomatoes tend to get squished and potatoes often get stuck to the blades no matter how hard you slap the product.

You can minimize your problems by experimenting with different ways to prepare your food items to be used with the Slap Chop. For example, if you cut a tomato in half and place it on your work surface with the rounded side up, you will then get better results as long as the tomato is not too soft. It is unfortunate, though, that the makers of the Slap Chop do not provide directions with this information already compiled in it and easy to understand.

Value (3 out of 5)

When you order your Slap Chop from the official website, for $19.95 plus shipping and handling (S&H), you will receive:

  • 2 Slap Chops for the price of one
  • The Graty Cheese Grater
  • “Free” Peel & Press Holders (separate S&H applies to this item)
  • A second Graty Cheese Grater (separate S&H applies to this item)

If you take out the “free” items, this is actually a good deal. The Graty Cheese Grater works pretty well and since the Slap Chop tends to wear out quickly if you use it a lot, it is nice to have a second one ready to replace the first.

Overall (3 out of 5)

For every Slap Chop review criticizing this product, you will find a Slap Chop review from someone who liked the “ultimate chopper” and thought it did its job well. Based on my experience, the Slap Chop is a good concept but the manufacturer did a poor job of constructing it. I hope this Slap Chop review has been helpful to you.
