Page content

If you are new to using a Nook, you may wonder how to transfer eBook from Barnes and Noble to the Nook. Great news! If you have purchased an eBook from the Barnes and Noble bookstore using your Nook, the book automatically loads on your Nook and you do not have to do anything. If you purchased the eBook from your computer, however, you will need to transfer it to your Nook. Fortunately, it is simple to do.

Shopping on Your Nook

You have a bookstore right on your Nook that you can take anywhere with you. You only need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network to access it.

To start shopping on your Nook, simply press the Shop icon in the Quick Nav Bar. The main page of the shop opens on the Nook showing you recommendations from their booksellers. If you are interested in a book, simply tap the cover to learn more about it. To purchase the book, tap on the Price button and the button will change to Confirm. Tap the Confirm button to confirm that you want to purchase the book. The credit card that you set up when you registered your Nook will be charged, and the book automatically downloads onto your Nook device.

If you want to return to the home page of the Shop, simply press the Shop icon again in the upper left corner, or tap the Home (shaped like a house) icon in the upper right corner.

Browsing the Store

If you want to browse in the store, tap the Browse button at the top. A list will show that will allow you to browse the store through lists, such as the B&N Top 100, or by categories.

Tap the Search field in the upper right corner of the window and a keyboard appears. Type in the name of the book or author you are searching for and tap the Search button. A list of results will display. Tap on the results you are interested in to learn more about them or to purchase them.

Find the Book on Your Nook

When you purchase a book from the Barnes & Noble Shop, it automatically downloads onto your Nook device and will appear in your Library. The book will be marked New on the book cover. This will be removed when you open the book. If the book is still downloading, you will see a progress bar at the bottom of the book. The new book will also appear in the New Reads list on the Home Screen on the Nook.

Transferring eBook from Computer to Nook

If you purchased a new eBook from the Barnes & Noble bookstore on your computer for your Nook, you will need to transfer the eBook to your Nook device.

Connect your Nook to your computer via the USB cable. Connect one end of the cable to the port on your Nook, and the other end into a free USB port on the front or back of your computer. If you have a laptop, the USB port may be on the side.

Wait a few minutes for your computer to recognize your Nook. If you see a window open asking you to install a driver, click Cancel.

Click the Start button in the lower left corner of your screen, and then click Computer. Double-click My Nook or MyNookColor, depending upon which Nook you have. A window opens showing folders and files that can be stored on your Nook. Double-click the Books folder to open it.

Right-click the book that you want to transfer to your Nook and select Copy. Right-click on an empty space in the Book folder and select Paste. You can also drag and drop the book from your computer into the Books folder if you would rather do it that way. If you have more than one book that you want to transfer, hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, click each book that you want to transfer, and then drag them to the Nook. You can also right-click on any one of the books, select Copy and then Paste on an empty space in the Books folder.

Disconnect your Nook from your computer when you are finished transferring the eBooks. You should see the eBooks you just transferred in your library on your Nook. They may also be listed in New Reads from the Home screen on the device.
