A Cool, Crisp, Refreshing Salad
If you are someone who enjoys the crisp texture of a cool salad on a blazing summer’s day, then you should most certainly invest in a stainless steel salad spinner. In this article, we will be looking at five different spinners that are currently on the market. A new salad spinner may be just the thing you need to start eating healthier so let’s get started.
OXO Steel Salad Spinner
This salad spinner has many features such as easy one-handed operation, a no-slip base, and a soft no-slip knob that locks down so that it can be stored with ease. In addition to these features, the OXO also has a clear lid allowing you to see inside. The entire spinner can be taken apart for cleaning purposes. This feature also allows you to use the stainless steel bowl separately. Unlike other spinners, the weight and the no-slip base keep this spinner from sliding around on your counter. The mesh openings do a great job keeping tiny seeds and dirt from getting into your salad. This spinner comes in two sizes, the regular size, which is wonderful for making large salads, and the small spinner, which is ideal for two people or for spinning herbs. The list price for this spinner is $44.50.
Polder 3190-75 Salad Spinner with Silicone Base Stainless Steel
The Polder has a removable colander, plastic lid, and is dishwasher safe. The unit comes apart, so the outer bowl can be used on its own. Also, the lid makes it easy to store leftover salad. This spinner has a silicone base making it unlikely to slip on the counter. One of the main drawbacks with this spinner is that the inner plastic strainer has been known to break off into little pieces if you spin with too much vigor. Furthermore, in order to drain the water from the bowl, you must first remove a small plastic piece located at the bottom of the bowl. As long as you don’t spin with too much force, the Polder is a reliable spinner. The list price for the Polder is $46.99

Rosle 15690 - Stainless Steel Salad Spinner with Lid
This salad spinner was designed and created in Germany and is made of 18/10 stainless steel. However, keep in mind that only the outer bowl is made of stainless steel; the rotating inner basket and the mechanism under the lid that turns the basket are both made of plastic. As was the case with the other two spinners, the outer bowl can be used for various purposes such as a serving bowl for your salad. Unlike other spinners, the spinning mechanism is integrated into the lid and is operated using a pull cord. While the pull cord was designed to automatically rewind, it has been known to get stuck. This could be a major problem considering this product does not come with a warranty. The main drawback with the Rosle is its list price, which comes in at $111.00.
MIU France 3189 Salad Spinner, Crank Handle, Stainless
This salad spinner is made of 18/10 stainless steel; it has a retractable cord, and a glide wheel. As was the case with some of the other spinners we discussed, the internal basket is made of plastic. While the product claims to be completely dishwasher safe, there are reports that the plastic bowl shrinks in the dishwasher. At 9-3/4 by 9-3/4 by 9-1/4 inches, one of the main complaints with the MIU is that the bowl is simply too small. It takes two cycles in order to dry one head of lettuce. The only other issue with this spinner is that the handle on the spinner is quite difficult to operate, making it difficult to get the spinner to spin fast enough to dry the lettuce. The list price for this spinner is $99.00.
The Top Contender
After looking at the advantages, disadvantages, price, and special features of each stainless steel salad spinner, the OXO Steel Salad Spinner comes out on top. While all of the bowls have the capability to be used as a separate mixing or serving bowl and have lids for storage, the OXO is the only spinner to have a no-slip base and a clear lid. As an added bonus, this spinner comes in at only $44.50, the least expensive of the bunch.
