Windows 7 Starter is availably mostly on netbooks. It is also used on lower end PCs. It leaves out most features that people like to have in Windows such as being able to change the desktop background. The Windows Aero theme is included with the Starter Edition but that is your only choice. You also cannot listen to music, watch movies or edit pictures with this Edition.
If you have a netbook, lower end PC, only want to read email and surf the Web and don’t care about listening to music, watching DVDs or editing pictures then you may be happy with this Edition. Most people: however, like to have the additional features that come with the other versions.
Use Oceanis to Change the Background
With Windows 7 Starter Edition, you will be greeted with a bright blue background. According to Windows, you are stuck with this. However, there is a program called Oceanis that can help you change your desktop background. It uses little memory and is a simple executable file called WallPaperAgent.exe. It runs at all times but only uses about 900K of system memory. This is not a lot and you probably will not notice any difference in your computer.
Download the Oceanis zip file. Extract it to your desktop then run it and install to your computer. You will be required to restart your computer when it finishes installing. When your computer boots back up you will see a new image on your desktop. This image goes away after you change the wallpaper.
You will have an icon on your desktop called Oceanis Change Background W7. When you want to change the background click on this icon and select an image. You can only use the images included with Oceanis but it will be something different from the bright blue background you see now.
The process that runs is called WallPaperAgent.exe and it runs at all times. If you end the process, your background will not change but when you reboot your computer, the process starts back up again. If you uninstall Oceanis, your desktop will go back to the default Windows 7 background.
Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional Editions
Other versions of Windows 7 include Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional Editions.
Windows 7 Home Premium sells for about $199.99 for the full version and $119.99 if you are upgrading from Windows XP or Vista. This version has all of the features that are in Vista or XP. The Home Premium is good for most users who fill find everything they need. A large majority of users use the Home Premium Version. Windows 7 Professional sells for about $300.00 for the full version and $200.00 for the upgrade. It has all of the features that are in the Home Premium edition but also has a backup program and the ability to go into Windows XP mode, which allows users to run older programs.
