Ubuntu 9.10 Review
If you thinking about getting your Ubuntu version upgraded to version 9.10 then you need to consider if the new version’s features are the ones that you want and need. But, before you get into the features lets talk about some of the core.
Performance
Ubuntu 9.10 has enough of the power and flexibility that you want in order to run all of your applications. However, you have to consider that this performance will depend on your hardware set up. Less powerful set up will have poorer performance, while more powerful systems will have better performance. Check out the test system specifications below.
Graphics
This operating system is pretty enough and it handles most DVD’s well enough. Just don’t expect too much in the way of HD, but only the people who are obsessed with HD are going to notice this on a PC screen. It will not be much of a hurdle for an average user.
Now that is out of the way we can get to the new features.
New Features
Easy install
You can get your hands onto installed Ubuntu is only six steps. Nice and easy.
E-migration
If you want to move your files to Ubuntu from another Linux flavor or Windows, the Migration Assistant can help you to transfer the files.
Encryption
If you want to keep your data safe–encryption is the way to go. You will see that you can choose your own encryption levels during the install.
Software Center
Finding and installing software can be a pain. Few people are willing to argue that. The software center will make your life much easier. It is kind of a one stop shop for software. You can search by category, and install everything very simply. The search feature is really handy.
All in all you should give Ubuntu 9.10 a try. It has better performance, capable graphics handling and some cool new features, all of which will please you greatly. Just be sure to back up your data before you upgrade. Some user are reporting loss of data, and it is always better to be safe then it is to be sorry.
