Method 1:

  • Reboot the computer, and then download the new McAfee setup file from their website download page.
  • Reinstall the McAfee product and proceed to check for product updates to take advantage of improved features or functions of the protection tool.

Method 2:

  • Download and run AppRemover software. AppRemover is a standalone program that requires no installation.
  • Scan the computer using AppRemover and choose to remove the McAfee software that it detected as running or installed.
  • Reboot only when AppRemover prompts for a reboot.
  • Download the new McAfee setup file from their website download page.
  • Reinstall your McAfee software and start checking for necessary program and definition updates.

NOTE: If you received your McAfee products from your Internet service provider (ISP), visit the ISP website to download the new setup file. If you received a retail box, proceed to download from the McAfee website instead of using an old installer that may have known bugs or design errors.
