This legal phrase applies to a separation of an employer-employee working relationship based on faulty grounds. Even though a company – in the absence of an employment contract – has the legal right to terminate a worker’s employment at will, it may not do so and cite reasons for the dismissal that governing bodies deem to be illegal.
