AVS DVD Authoring is an inexpensive Windows-based program for organizing your DVD collection. It allows you to add DVD menus and captures. You can add music and titles, and burn your finished DVD project to a DVD.
But, what if you want to add subtitles to your movies? Well, it’s not as straightforward with AVS DVD Authoring as in some other programs. You can, however, learn how to add subtitles with AVS DVD Authoring. It just requires you to do a bit extra work.
Add a Text Box
You can add text boxes to any frame in your DVD. This is the way that you will have to add your subtitles. This also means that you need to
create text for every scene.
The first thing that you should do is watch every second of your movie and write down the dialogue. If you created the movie from a script, this should be really easy. Even if your actors veered off the script a few times, you still have a base to start with. Plus, scripts are usually typed. This allows you to cut and paste your dialogue into text box.
To add a text box, follow the below instructions:
1. Go to the Main Menu and then Page.
2. Go to Add Text.
3. Add your text.
4. Right-click on the text, and select Edit Text. This brings up the properties for the text, allowing you to manipulate the text look.
Changing the Text Look
You’ll now see the text box on your screen. Select the font that you want to use and the size and style of the font. You can event pick the alignment for the text box.
The Position option allows you to see the location of your text in relation to the rest of the page. Since you are adding subtitles, make sure that they are as close to the bottom of the frame as possible. But, don’t have them so far down that they are cut off.
You can also add effects to your text using the Pen and Brush options. Since you are adding subtitles, keep this to a minimum. Subtitles don’t have a lot of flair. Just make the text large enough for your audience to read it.
Adding the Video as Background
You want your text to be visible. So, you need to make the video file the background image. To do this, follow the below steps:
1. Go to the Navigation Panel.
2. Select the page that you want to add the background video file to.
3. Make the file larger, and click on the “Background”.
4. Select the options that you want to use for your video file.
5. Select Video from file, and click on the video that you want to use.
6. Click OK.
You can manipulate the length of the frame in the Edit Video Fragment window.
Once you are done, save your work, or burn it to a DVD. While slightly cumbersome, this is how you add subtitles with AVS DVD Authoring.
