Truer words may have never been spoken. Much like everyone enjoys getting presents, everyone enjoys being told “Thank You” as everyone loves to feel appreciated and have their efforts noticed. How can you portray this? Easy! Design a card from scratch, which will speak volumes more than a card picked up from a store! This article will showcase a variety of different tips and ideas on how to make your own printable thank you card.

Brainstorming

How much is too much? How much is too little? Designing printable thank you cards isn’t incredibly hard, but does warrant a little bit of brainstorming. For example, you probably want to have something more whimsical if someone has done a light chore for you, such as watering your plants while you were out of town. However, if they had sent you food when you had a death in the family, something a little more serious might be in order.

If you received an awesome birthday present, you may want to have some fun with the card! Received some great wedding presents? Something elegant may be in order. If you stop and take the time to think about the feeling you’re trying to convey, you’ll find that the process becomes much easier later on when you design your card.

In addition to saying thank you, it’s also an option to mention the gift that they gave you, and how you plan on using it. Or even better, if they got you something nice for your kitchen, you could always cook them something to send along with your card.

Free Thank You Poems

Struggling to wax poetic? Don’t worry about it! Poem Source offers some great free thank you poems, two of which I’ve listed below. These two poems are great for everything from Christmas presents to house sitting.

You Didn’t Have To

Thank you for what you did;

You didn’t have to do it.

I’m glad someone like you,

Could help me to get through it.

I’ll always think of you,

With a glad and grateful heart;

You are very special;

I knew it from the start!

Thoughtful Gift

Thank you for the lovely gift;

You didn’t have to do it.

You have a good and gracious heart,

But then, I always knew it.

I love this, and I think of you

With fondness and with pleasure;

The gift is great, but even more,

It’s your thoughtfulness I treasure.

Symbols, Fonts, & Graphics: What To Look For

I’m not entirely sure if it’s a blessing or a curse, but “Thank You” doesn’t exactly have a lot of visual cues associated with it. Take a trip down any aisle of any card store, and you’ll rarely see two generic Thank You cards that look the same. While this means that you might be starting blind, you do need to realize that this is a great opportunity to take some artistic liberty. In addition to that, you can use the context (eg: the reason you’re thanking the person) to give you some direction. Here’s a collection of Photoshop Brushes and other embellishments that can be applied to a ton of different things, and some ideas that you can draw from:
