Quick Take

Photodex CompuPic Standard 6.23 can organize your photos easily and in many different ways. But bear in mind that CompuPic Standard is intended for quick photo touch-up and not major photo overhaul.

Introduction

Photodex CompuPic Standard 6.23 focuses on keeping your digital photos organized just the way you want them.  On the Menu Interface screen alone, there are five different views from which to choose. In everything from batch conversions to Time/Datestamp changes to simply dragging a thumbnail image to a new location, the focus of CompuPic Standard is to make the job fast and effortless.

Version 6.23 of CompuPic Standard lends itself to beginner, intermediate, and advanced digital photographers. In other words, this software is for most anyone except the professionals. For quick, easy fixes and effortless effects, you have plenty of time to be out in the field setting up shots and preparing new projects.

There are ten file formats for writing and 50 for reading, not to mention 19 file types that are newly supported. Along with this, there are 37 enhancements and fixes since the last edition. Now add seven filters and effects to this, and you have a greatly improved tool.

Photodex definitely believes in its product. It allows you to go online and download the full version of CompuPic Standard 6.23 for a 15-day free trial period. That shows confidence.

If you are more into taking the digital photo, but need easy access, effortless software to keep your photos organized—and that organization easily modified—CompuPic Standard may be the software for you.

User Interface (4 out of 5)

What’s Hot:
The user interface is easy to use, making navigability smooth for almost everything I tried.

What’s Not:
For some reason I was unable to get the time/date stamp to change the date on a photo. I followed the directions carefully, so I am not sure if that part of the software has an issue or if a step was left out of the Help instructions.

Product Features (4 out of 5)

What’s Hot:
Since this software is designed to not be cluttered, you really don’t see what it can do until you go over it with a discerning eye. The Menu Interface screen shows maybe half of what you get. Once you click a digital photo for touch-up or organization, a new window pop ups showing the photo and other toolbars for modifying it.

Performance (4 out of 5)

What’s Hot:
Except for one exercise that I’ve already mentioned, this software performed to the software planner’s intentions. Easy and effortless describes it best.

Security & Privacy (4 out of 5)

What’s Hot:
In the Tool Bar, click the drop-down menu and click “Access & Security.” You can type in a password to keep others out of CompuPic Standard 6.23 if you wish.  The manufacturer does warn, though, that this security will not stop hackers or very proficient computer users.

Help & Support (5 out of 5)

What’s Hot:
Photodex takes pride in letting customers know that it does not outsource its help and support. The 800 number for customer support is 1-800-37-PHOTO. Technical support can be had at support@photodex.com or by calling (512) 419-7000 Monday through Friday, 8:30-5:00 p.m. CST.

What’s Not:
There is no toll free number for technical support.

Price to Value (5 out of 5)

What’s Hot:
For a quick online download at www.photodex.com of $39.95, this registered software has a great price, whether it is a download or bought in a box.

Installation & Setup (5 out of 5)

What’s Hot:
The download from the www.photodex.com site was easy. It was saved as CompuPic said to do, and after that the extraction of files was quick with icon buttons for the desktop, Start menu and launch toolbar.

Conclusion

CompuPic Standard’s objective is to help you keep your digital photos organized in ways that are easy and effortless. With basic touch-up tools for quick, uncomplicated modifications, CompuPic Standard aims to keep the digital photographer out in the field taking photos, rather than tying him or her down to a computer.
