Protecting Nokia Phones Using Eset Mobile Security
Antivirus for Nokia and Windows Mobile Phones
Paying bills, checking e-mails, downloading files and browsing the Internet using any network connected device such as a laptop, desktop or mobile device, should be protected from malware and other threats. It’s also recommended to use security protection software on your smartphone to make sure that your private information is safe.
Eset, the maker of the popular NOD32 antivirus for Windows and Mac is also offering mobile security for Windows Mobile and Symbian phones. Below is a review of Eset Mobile Security, your antivirus for Nokia phones.
System Requirements and Installation (4 out of 5)
Nokia devices with Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 or 2, Symbian S60 5th Edition and Symbian^3 may use the protection by Eset. Windows Mobile 5.0, 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5 phone users can also enjoy this software.
The install process of the security software by Eset for Nokia phones is straightforward. You can download the Eset installer from Eset website and then transfer it using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB file transfer or as an e-mail attachment. You can also use Nokia OVI or PC Suite to transfer and install the antivirus with firewall protection by Eset.
Installing Eset mobile security to a memory card is not possible.
Features and Performance (4 out of 5)
The key features in using Eset mobile security are as follows:
- Real-time virus and firewall protection.
- On-demand virus scan.
- Anti-spam and anti-theft.
- Security audit, automatic or manual virus detection database updates.
- Quarantine manager.
- Password protection.
Scanning a folder or entire Nokia phone is fast and you can put it in the background by using the multi-task feature of the Nokia phone. The program responds well on touchscreen Nokia phones e.g. Nokia N8. The only issue that I noticed in using the program is that pressing the cancel option will always display the main user interface of the program instead of the navigation menu. It is also missing parental control features that competing mobile security solutions offer.
Updating the virus definitions that Eset will use can be done easily using an available network (public or private). The program’s anti-theft
works like a charm. I tested it by replacing the SIM card and it immediately sent an SMS to my configured mobile phone. Eset also deleted the sent SMS. What is neat in using the anti-theft feature is it can remote wipe SMS to the unauthorized user’s mobile number to delete the contacts, messages and applications stored on the stolen device to protect the data from being used or viewed.
The security audit feature is also useful. It checks the status of the battery level, Bluetooth, free disk space, device visibility, home network and running processes. You can configure the security audit setting to automatically fix the items that are considered in risk status. There is an option to schedule and adjust the security audit that Eset will perform on your Nokia device.
Price to Value, Availability and Support (5 out of 5)
Eset mobile security only costs $29.95 for a 1 year subscription for a single device. A 30-day trial version is offered by Eset. Note that product activation is required after 30 days. The program is available from the Eset online store and you can choose to subscribe to 2 years of protection to save 25%. Free support is available in the Eset forums, while licensed customers may contact customer care.
It is worth using Eset mobile antivirus and firewall with anti-theft and anti-spam protection in Nokia phones. The ease of use and good performance in small networked devices will not cause trouble at all but keep the Nokia phone and private data safe.
