Nokia C6-01 Review: First Look

The Nokia C6-01 is like an upgrade to the Nokia C6. It sports a better OS - Symbian ^3, better hardware and better features. It has a smaller display than the Nokia N8 and a lower resolution camera. The hardware is the best that Nokia offers in its high end smartphones and the camera is the best in its price range. It seems like a very compelling option and offers superb competition to the Samsung Wave.

Design

The Nokia C6-01 is a stylish smartphone with a sleek design. It is pretty compact with dimensions of just 103.8 x 52.5 x 13.9 mm and it weighs just about 131 gms. It will be one of the cheapest Symbian ^3 smartphones and to bring the price down to that point, Nokia has made a few compromises. It has a relatively small 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. It has the same display as the Nokia C7, a ClearBlack one, only smaller.

Hardware and OS

The Nokia C6-01 is one of the most capable Nokia smartphones. The hardware powering it is the same as the Nokia N8 or the Nokia E7, Nokia’s best smartphones. It has a 680 MHz ARM 11 processor and comes with a 3D graphics processor. It also has 256 MB RAM. The internal storage capacity is 340 MB but it also supports microSD cards up to 32 GB.

It runs the latest version of the Symbian OS - Symbian ^3. This is a touch optimized version of the Symbian OS and can compete with iOS and Android in terms of usability, but doesn’t have many apps or games yet.

Multimedia

The Nokia C6-01 is one of the best smartphones available in terms of multimedia features. It sports an 8 MP camera with an image capture resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. It is a fixed focus camera with a dual LED flash and comes with features like geo-tagging and face detection. It can handle 720p HD video recording at 25 FPS. It also has a secondary VGA camera in the front for video calls. It also has a TV out feature and can play MP4, WMV, H.264 videos.

Connectivity

The Nokia C6-01 offers all the standard connectivity features - GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP. It also has microUSB 2.0 with USB on-the-go support. It comes with a built in GPS transceiver with A-GPS support. It sports the latest version of the default Symbian Webkit based browser which is quite good.

Conclusion

The Nokia C6-01 is a very good mid range smartphone. Compared to the iPhone and high end Android devices like the Galaxy S and the Droid X, it is priced very low. It’s aimed at those who want to buy a Nokia N8 but find the price too high. The camera is the best in its price range and the OS is also promising. It competes with the Samsung Wave, which is another very good option in this price range.
