Despite losing marketshare in the smartphone segment, Nokia is continually rolling out new models at multiple pricebands with slightly different feature sets. The new Nokia C6 is very similar to the Nokia N97 mini but will be priced much lower while offering almost the same features. The build quality is slightly inferior to the N97 mini though. It is a budget smartphone with a 5 MP camera and a sliding QWERTY keypad.
The Nokia C6 is a bit bulky compared to the N97 Mini; it has dimensions of 113 x 53 x 16.8 mm and weighs 150 gms. It has a 3.2 inch TFT display with a resistive touchscreen. The design is standard and the build quality is quite good. It is available in black and white. The front face is mostly occupied by the 3.2 inch display, with 3 keys below it - Call, End and Menu. On the top lies the front facing camera and the light sensor. On the left, there is the card slot and on the right is the volume rocker keys, camera button and lock slider. The back has the 5 MP camera with the flash and the battery compartment. The top edge sports the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the microUSB port.
The QWERTY keypad slides out from below the display in a smooth sliding action. The keys are nicely spaced and have good feedback. The 3.2 inch display has a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels and supports 16 M colors. The display quality is pretty nice and offers good contrast. The direct sunlight legibility is also good. It is perfect for casual videos. The only complaint I have is that it has a resistive touchscreen when most other phones now have a capacitive one.
Nokia C6 Hardware and Performance
The hardware specifications are pretty similar to the N97 Mini. It is powered by a ARM 11 processor clocked at 434 MHz. It has 128 MB RAM and offers 240 MB of internal memory with support for up to 32 GB microSD cards. It runs on Symbian OS v9.4 S60v5, just like the N97 Mini. It offers all the standard connectivity options - GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP and a microUSB 2.0 port. It also has an FM Radio with RDS and a GPS transceiver with A-GPS support.
The bundled 5 MP camera takes pretty decent pictures. It comes with autofocus and LED flash. It can also record video at 640 x 480 pixels at 15 FPS. It is powered by a 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery which should last at least a day with moderate usage. All in all, it is a great budget smartphone which offers good value for money.
