The Motorola Crush may appear as a simple touchscreen phone with a cheap price but it comes with a lot of surprises. The display of the phone may be small with a limited resolution yet with its good array of functions and good call quality, the Motorola Crush can be a good alternative to other more expensive touchscreen phones available in the market today.

The Crush has a typical candy bar design with dimensions of 4.17 inches in length and 2 inches in width with a depth of 0.57 inches. The touchscreen can support up to 262,000 colors at a resolution of 400x240 pixels. The Crush has a 2.8 inch display that is obviously a lot smaller than other touchscreen phone models. It also has a 3.6 ounce weight, good enough to be carried in pants pockets and small bags.
The Motorola Crush has a solid build and feels comfortable in the hand. The back cover is laced with soft touch material for an easier, more comfortable grip. The back cover features the camera lens although there is no self portrait mirror. On the left side of the phone are the headset jack (3.5mm), volume toggler and micro USB port for charging the phone and transferring files through a USB cable. On the right side of the phone are the camera shuttle, voice dialing key, and microSD card.

The Motorola Crush has dedicated buttons for call and end located on top of the LCD display, which is a departure from the usual design wherein the keys are located below the display. The external speaker is also placed at the top end of the phone. There are also shortcuts at the top end of the phone. While these contrasting designs do not exactly make the phone less user-friendly, users may still have to get used to the different design of the phone.
When the display is tapped the main menu will open in the traditional grid format. The main menu is both user friendly and accessible although many users complain that the text is quite small for their taste. The display can be jerky at times but it is still responsive and accurate. Even better Motorola provides a haptic feedback in this device. The text size cannot be customized although the backlighting and brightness of the phone can be altered. The Crush’s virtual key pad is easy to use as it comes with large buttons plus a shortcut key for recent calls.

The Motorola Crush has an address book capable of holding a maximum of 1,000 contacts. Each contact can have up to four phone numbers, a couple of email addresses, plus notes. Contacts can also be organized into groups and customized with ringtones and photos.
The phone has basic features such as multimedia and text messaging, alarm clock, vibrate mode, calendar, calculator, world clock, notepad, and speakerphone. Other than these basic features the phone has Bluetooth for easier transfer of files, computer synchronization, voice recording and USB storage.
The Crush also comes with a decent media player that can support various audio files like MP3, WMA, WAV, MIDI, and AAC, although the catch is that the media player only plays audio files stored on a memory card. The phone has a memory that can be expanded up to 16GB through a microSD slot. The phone’s internal memory is 150MB. Apart from these features the Crush has GPS that helps users get traffic and driving instructions, while getting updates for traffic, events, and movies.
The phone is also totally customizable as it comes with a wide range of options for wallpapers and clock formats. It comes with one integrated game, Pac-Man, although users can also download more games. The phone also comes with a full HTML browser that suffers because of the small LED display of the Crush.
The Crush also comes with a 2 megapixel camera which has limited options aside from its digital zoom. There are no resolution options which is a given for a mid-priced phone such as the Crush. The camera recorder is also lacking in features, only capable of a clip length of 15 seconds.
Performance (4 out of 5)
The Crush gets a lot of rave reviews thanks to its great voice call quality. Voice call made using this device are always clear and loud. The speakerphone also works well and the volume is pretty impressive.
The Motorola Crush has a camera phone that delivers sub-par images. However this is a given since the phone is cheaply priced. The Crush also has a battery life of about 4 hours of talk time while on standby the phone can last up to 20 days.

The Motorola Crush is a good phone to have especially for those who do not have the budget to purchase more expensive and advanced handsets.
