G is one of the most popular mobile phone manufacturers in the world but it hasn’t been targeting the smartphone crowd yet, most of its products are simple feature phones which provide good features and run on the custom LG firmware. LG has lately ventured into smartphone territory with the LG GW620 which ran Android 1.5 and was a great budget option for those who wanted a QWERTY phone. Check out the LG GW620 Review.

It has announced a whole new Android lineup which consists of the Optimus Z, the Optimus Q, the Optimus One and the Optimus Chic.

The Optimus Z will be a standard touchscreen smartphone with a 5 MP camera and a 3.8 inch display while the Optimus Q will be a QWERTY slider phone with a 3.5 inch display. Both will run on Android 2.1 Eclair and will be upgraded to Android 2.2 later in the end of 2010. The Optimus Z seems to be a very capable smartphone with good hardware specifications.

Design

The Optimus Z will sport a standard design dominated by the display in the front. It has dimensions of 117.9 x 56.9 x 11 mm and weighs around 135 gms. The phone is pretty compact and slim.

It sports a 3.8 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display which has a resolution of 480 x 640 pixels and supports 256K colors. The TFT display isn’t as good as the Super AMOLED display in the new Samsung Galaxy S.

User Interface

The LG Optimus Z will run on Android 2.1 presumably with a custom UI shell on top, but will get an upgrade to Android 2.2 soon. It will be powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and will have about 512 MB RAM. It will support up to 32 GB microSD cards. Hardware wise, the LG Optimus Z is one of the best Android phones.

Multimedia

The LG Optimus Z will come with a 5 MP camera which can capture images at a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The camera will have autofocus and geotagging. It can also record 720p video.

The music player can play MP3, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA files. The video player can handle DivX, MP4 and H.263 playback. It will come with a TV Tuner and an HDMI port.

Connectivity

It sports all the standard connectivity options: GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g with DLNA. It also has Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0 connectivity. The Optimus Z also has a built in GPS transceiver with A-GPS.

Conclusion

It is one of the most promising smartphones yet by LG. If priced right, it should be a great hit. Also, check out our list of Top 10 Android Smartphones.
