Comparison and Contrast of LG Rumor and LG Rumor 2

The LG Rumor 2 is the next version of the LG Rumor which explains why the two mobile phones are almost identical at first glance. However, they do have some major differences, not only in design, but also in their features. Most of these differences are just improvements of features from the first version of the mobile phone, but there are new features on the LG Rumor 2 that can’t be found on the original, LG Rumor.

Design

LG Rumor 2

At first glance, the two phones are identical. Both versions have the same candy bar shape with round edges. Looking closer, you will see that the LG Rumor 2 is a little bigger with the size of 4.4 inches in height x 2.1 inches in width while the LG Rumor measures 4.3 inches x 2 inches. The LG Rumor 2 weighs 4.2 oz which is slightly heavier than the LG Rumor weighing 4.13 oz. The LG Rumor 2 also sports a glossier skin than its predecessor. Finally, the LG Rumor 2 has a more vivid display than the original version thanks to its larger amount of pixels, higher resolution and sharper graphics. The LG Rumor trumps its successor, though, in terms of the navigation array. The toggle on the LG Rumor 2 is more cramped and harder to handle than the LG Rumor’s controls. The keyboard of the LG Rumor 2 has 4 rows as opposed to the LG Rumor’s 3. This new row contains dedicated number keys and a dedicated smiley key.

Features

The phone book of the LG Rumor 2 holds a slightly higher number of contacts than the LG Rumor. The first version of the LG Rumor can contain 500 contacts while its successor holds 600. One major difference between the two devices is support for both Microsoft Server and Lotus Notes. These are two very efficient productivity tools that give LG Rumor 2 owners a major advantage over LG Rumor owners.

Both devices can capture still photos with their 1.3 megapixel cameras, but the LG Rumor 2 trumps the LG Rumor in this department. The former can capture video up to two resolutions while the latter simply does not have the capability to capture video.

Performance

Call quality doesn’t differ much between the two devices but speakerphone calls are noticeably better on the LG Rumor 2 than on the LG Rumor. Another difference is the battery life. The LG Rumor has a battery life of 4.5 hours of talk time while the LG Rumor 2 has 5.5 hours. That is a significant difference and a major improvement for the LG Rumor line of mobile phones.

Conclusion

The LG Rumor 2 has a lot of minor improvements from the LG Rumor but it doesn’t have a great amount of new features. Surprisingly, the LG Rumor 2 does offer one major new feature, which is the camcorder capability. Aside from a few changes that can be considered downgrades, pound for pound, the LG Rumor 2 is a better mobile phone than the LG Rumor.
