iPhone Screen Problems: Possible Problems and How to Troubleshoot Them
Page content

Tech gadgets are often susceptible to issues and the iPhone is not exempt. There are a variety of iphone screen problems you could experience. Many problems can be easily troubleshooted and addressed with a little patience and knowledge of the possible issues you may experience. However, it is important to keep in mind that not all iPhone screen problems can be fixed, so if you are unable to do it yourself, calling technical support or taking it in to the place where you purchased it, is the best option.

Blank Black Screen

Some iPhone users experience a blank screen in which the screen is simply blank. It will be black and nothing shows up to be touched. Users can still hear calls and text messages coming through, they just cannot see or respond to them. Resetting the phone will work for most users. To reset the iPhone press and hold the Home button and Sleep/Wake button at the same time for 30 seconds. This will clear out the screen and then, on the black background, the Apple logo will appear. Once this logo appears on the screen, the reset is complete. If this does not work, the issue could be something more complex and will require you to contact Apple technical support.

Touchscreen Response Issues

Touchscreen response issues associated with the iPhone can include the touchscreen not responding, portions of the touchscreen not responding, or the touchscreen being very slow in responding. There are a variety of things that can be tried to troubleshoot this iPhone screen problem, including:

  • Use a slightly damp, soft cloth that is free of lint to gently clean your iPhone screen.
  • Make sure to touch the screen directly with fingers and not while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or with hand lotion on.
  • Do not use a pen or any other instrument to touch the touchscreen.
  • Turn the phone off and then on again. Then press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button for about 30 seconds until a red slider appears on the screen. Once the slider is present, slide the slider and then again press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button. Once an Apple logo appears on the screen, all should work. If not, technical support may be necessary.

Blank White Screen

iPhone users may run into an iPhone screen problem where the screen on the phone is all white. To troubleshoot this, first begin by trying to just turn off the phone and then turn it back on. If the phone will not turn off, resetting it may work. To reset the phone, press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button for about 30 seconds until a red slider appears on the screen. Once the slider is present, slide the slider and then again press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button. Once an Apple logo appears on the screen, all should work. If the battery symbol pops up, charge the phone until it has a full charge. If this does not work, restoring the device may be necessary. For assistance in restoring the iPhone, contact technical support.
