The new Apple iOS 5.0 is really amazing and has over 200 features with some awesome new prospects like iMessage, new notification center, Wi-Fi synchronization, newsstand, etc. What is really amazing is that it comes integrated with iCloud, a new concept developed by Mr. Steve Jobs who claims that iCloud will gradually wipe out computers from the market.

A few days after the launch of Apple iOS 5.0, Apple introduced the first beta version of the new firmware on June 6, 2011. On June 24, 2011, Apple introduced the second beta version of the new iOS, i.e. iPhone iOS 5.0b2. It seems that Apple was under enormous pressure and couldn’t wait till the final version to fix the loop hole that allowed Gevey SIMs to work and unlock iPhone 4.

The good news is – you can still unlock iPhone iOS 5.0b1 using Gevey SIM. To jailbreak your iPhone with iOS 5.0b1, follow the steps mentioned below.

Warning: Never update to newer firmware versions released by Apple, or you may brick your iPhone.

Important: This jailbreak is only available for developers as only developers have access to the new iPhone iOS 5.0b1 version. However, in this guide I shall provide you with the links to download the beta version of the firmware.

Upgrading your iPhone to the new OS might upgrade your baseband as well, ruining your plans to upgrade it in future.

Before you jailbreak, you need to register your iPhone’s UDID [Unique Device Identifier] with Apple to activate iOS 5.

Please follow the steps at your own risk – neither Bright Hub nor the writer takes responsibility for any harm caused to your iPhone by following this tutorial.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Before performing the jailbreak, make sure you download the required software. The links are only accessible via torrent software like uTorrent. Check the References section for the link.

Step 2: After you have downloaded the required files, extract redSnow to a folder. Right click on the redSnow.exe file to run it in Administrator mode. Now, press Ctrl + Alt + Del keys together to open up Task Manager.

In the Task Manager Window, search for the redSnow.exe process and right click on it to set the CPU Affinity to one.

This is required to ensure that the redSnow application doesn’t hang up while preparing jailbreak data.

Step 3: Connect your iPhone to the computer. Launch iTunes and pressing the Shift key, click on the Restore button to restore your iPhone. Select the iPhone iOS 5.0b1 file that you downloaded and let iTunes restore your iPhone with the newer firmware you selected.

Step 4: In the redSnow application, click the Browse button to select the new iOS 5.0b1 file and let redSnow validate it.

After successful validation, the “Next” button will enable. Click the Next button to continue with the jailbreaking process.

Step 5: RedSnow will now prepare the jailbreak data and it might take a few minutes. After the process is complete, select “Install Cydia” and “Just boot tethered right now” options and click “Next” button to continue.

You will not be asked to put your iPhone in DFU mode. Follow the guide below to learn how.

Step 6: After you put the iPhone in DFU mode, your iPhone will reboot and redSnow will then upload data on your iPhone. Once the process is complete, you need to run redSnow again and choose the “just boot tethered right now” option and every time you reboot your iPhone.
