Blip.me

blipme

This new iPhone app is quite unique as it lets you turn your iPhone into a push-to-talk walkie-talkie, allowing you to send and receive free voice notes and text messages to and from your family and friends. One way of describing this app is as something simpler than a text message but personal like a phone call. The app will be most useful if you want to send a quick note to your friend but you’re too lazy or too busy to compose a text message. Simply say your note and send it to anyone on your iPhone’s contact list. What’s good about this app is that your friend doesn’t need to have the app installed and better yet doesn’t even need to have an iPhone to receive your voice note. (Price: Free)

Crackle

crackle

Released just a couple of days ago, Crackle is definitely one of the best apps in April 2011. This app does one basic thing - lets you watch movies on your iPhone for free. And I’m not just talking about old movies of the long gone era, but more recent ones that became blockbuster hits. Movies such as The Da Vinci Code, Big Daddy, Joe Dirt and more. Aside from movies you can also watch popular TV shows using this new iPhone app. What’s even better is that more movies are being added to Crackle’s catalog every month. The app streams movies and TV via Wi-Fi or 3G and is available only in US, Canada, UK and Australia. (Price: Free)

Photosynth

photosynth

Interestingly, Microsoft’s latest iPhone app has nothing to do with their cloud storage services or their search engine. It’s Photosynth - an interactive panorama capture and sharing app. The app is pretty good actually as it lets you capture photos in 360° in all directions - that means, up, down, left, and right. The app uses the latest in computer vision techniques. Using the app and creating panoramic shots is easy as well. Just take a series of photos and let the app stitch them together to create your final panoramic shot. As for the sharing feature, the app lets you share your photos with your friends on Facebook as well as upload them to Bing Maps where they might be featured on the Bing Search homepage. This app’s tagline goes something like a painterly music synthesizer for your iPhone. It allows you to create music and synthesized sound and animation by painting on the screen with your fingers.
