Common iPhone Jailbreaking Problems
Jailbreaking an iPhone is a critical process and requires proper attention. If all the steps are not followed carefully, you might end up with a bricked iPhone. With the new iPhone 4.2.1 firmware, users are facing even more problems and they often ask for solutions to problems encountered during the iPhone jailbreaking process.
However, it becomes difficult for other iPhone users to keep track of all the problems and their relevant solutions. In this article, you will find common iPhone jailbreaking problems related to the iPhone 4.2.1 jailbreak and unlock process. Can I jailbreak my iPhone with 4.2.1 firmware and baseband 03.10?
At present, redSnow for Windows only supports the following baseband versions: 01.59, 05.11.07, 04.26.08, 05.13.04, 05.12.01 and 06.15.
So, if your iPhone has any of these baseband versions, you can jailbreak and unlock your iPhone without any problem. If it doesn’t then DO NOT jailbreak your iPhone. You will either end up with a bricked iPhone or you may not be able to jailbreak your iPhone in future.

If you see a grey Cydia icon or the Cydia application doesn’t open up, then you need to use a tethered jailbreak. When using redSnow, check the option that reads “Use Tethered Jailbreak” and follow the jailbreak process again.
Tethered jailbreak means that if your iPhone loses battery or if your iPhone reboots, you need to connect it to a computer to start it again.
After jailbreaking and unlocking, iPhone has no network signals.
If your iPhone doesn’t have one of the supported baseband versions mentioned above and you still manage to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone, you will face issues such as “no network signals”, “searching for network”, etc.. This is because, your baseband is not yet supported by redSnow. This is what I have been saying to readers, Please do not jailbreak your iPhone, if you don’t have the supported baseband.

When can I jailbreak and unlock my iPhone with 4.2.1 firmware as my iPhone’s baseband is not yet supported?
This is a very complex question and truly speaking the answer to this question lies with DEV Team who have been continuously working on the process. According to a DEV Team Twitter message, you should not expect another jailbreak unless and until the 4.2.5 or 4.3 firmware is out.
Can I jailbreak and unlock my iPhone?
You can jailbreak your iPhone irrespective of the baseband version it has. However, to unlock your iPhone it should have one of the supported baseband versions mentioned above. Till then, do not update to 4.2.1 firmware.
