HTC Mondrian Preview

The HTC Mondrian is one of the many phones that HTC plans to release with Windows Phone 7. With the hardware requirements given by Microsoft, the HTC Mondrian has a very standardized look and feel based upon the current leaked images. The HTC Mondrian may not be the final name for the phone and it may actually be the rumored HD7, or the Schubert, but it could also be an entirely new phone from HTC. With the release of Windows Phone 7 set to be around October 11th, HTC hopes to capture and captivate audiences with a new experience, just like they did when they first released the HTC Dream (the T-Mobile G1) as the first ever Android powered handset. The HTC Mondrian may be the first step in gaining that audience.

HTC Mondrian Expectations

The HTC Mondrian is the spiritual successor to the fairly badly released HTC HD2. While the HTC HD2 began with a bang and ended with a whimper, the HTC Mondrian hopefully will not suffer from the same fate. The biggest flaw of the HD2 was the operating system, Windows Mobile 6.5. Even with HTC’s Sense UI, Windows Mobile 6.5 is a dying operating system, teetering on its last legs. The HTC Mondrian is HTC’s attempt at starting over, this time with the new, highly anticipated Windows Phone 7.

With the current rumored specs, you can expec the HTC Mondrian to be extremely powerful and responsive. The dual core 1.3 GHz processor is among the fastest in the world of smartphones but you have to wonder how much stress the new Windows Phone 7 OS will cause and if the processor is enough. With the current released footage of Windows Phone 7, it seems that the OS is very smooth and does not lag, but you have to wonder how it will perform in the real world.

The HTC Mondrian is currently rumored to be able to handle GSM networks, meaning that it will most likely be

AT&T - Microsoft’s Premier Partner

released by AT&T or T-Mobile in the United States. The most likely candidate is AT&T, which was announced as Microsoft’s “premier partner” for Windows Phone 7. This is an interesting position for the HTC Mondrian as that will put the phone on the same network that has the iPhone exclusively in the U.S. The expectations for the HTC Mondrian are therefore higher as it has to compete for possibly the same customers that already have an iPhone on the AT&T network.

With the current rumored specs, the HTC Mondrian is an extremely anticipated phone, and we can only hope that the Mondrian meets these expectations. HTC also has some extremely big competition, as Samsung and LG are two other competitors entering with Windows Phone 7 handsets. The LG E900 is another highly anticipated Windows Phone 7 handset that people are keeping a close eye on. This is HTC’s chance to once again show dominance in designing a phone for a wholly new operating system. Whether or not it will catch fire in the already highly competitive handset market will have to be seen, but with HTC’s track record, the HTC Mondrian will most likely succeed and start a new line of customers to target for HTC.
