What is it?

If you have ever heard rappers like T-Pain and Lil’ Wayne and wondered how they add that robot sound to their vocals, they are using software that applies pitch correction to their voice. This has brought an onslaught of pitch correction throughout all music genres in recent years. If you don’t have access to high dollar recording eqiupment and would like to try adding some pitch correction to your own vocal abilities, then MicDriod is just what you are looking for. MicDroid is available in free and pay versions for download on the Android Market . There are no differences between the free and pay version, but it is always nice to kick a developer a few dollars if you enjoy using their application. MicDroid is the closest thing to iPhone’s “I am T-Pain” that’s available for Android phones.

After you have downloaded MicDroid from the Android Market and started the application, you will immediately notice how simple it is to use the application by its initial screen. You will be presented with a power button that you can press “on” to begin recording whatever sounds you would like to record. When you are done recording your beautiful singing voice, simply press the power button “off” to end the session. You will be prompted with a “save file” window allowing you to label your platinum recording. Type in a name you like and click save. After clicking save, the program will begin its autotune conversion process and may take a few minutes depending on how large your recording is. Once the conversion is complete, you can listen to your recording by clicking the menu button and selecting “recording library”. A list of all your MicDroid recordings will be displayed and can be played by tapping a selection. You can also set a recording as a ringtone or send via email by tapping and holding a listed track. If you are adventurous, you can select the “Pitch Correction Settings” and dig down into your MicDroid recording. There are a few options to configure here like sample rate, key changes, pitch settings and correction settings.

Pros

  • Easy to use interface will allow you to easily create MicDroid recordings.
  • You can easily playback recorded tracks, set them as ringtones or email them to impress your friends.
  • Several options available to change pitch, fix corrections and adjust sample rates.
  • It’s free!

Cons

  • Application is in a very basic stage and the graphical interface could use a facelift.
  • Not as many features as iPhone’s “I am T-Pain ”.

The Verdict

MicDroid is a fun addition to your Android application repository. You can bust it out at parties or hanging out with friends and have some good laughs. Depending on how well you can sing, the laughs might not be focused on MicDroid. Since this application is free for download, definitely give it a try!
