Top Five Android Football Apps (Soccer)
Page content

Football or soccer is indisputably the world’s most popular sport. It is known as the beautiful game and is played at all levels from amateur kids to top professionals. There are loads of Android football apps on the market, some of them are game based, some give scores, news and the latest football updates for clubs and leagues across the world. There is an app for everyone in the football sphere and we have a round up of five of the popular ones, one or two, or even all five might appeal to you.

1. Soccer Scores- FotMob

The Soccer Scores app is pretty straightforward but it has several features that should appeal to serious football lovers. The app displays coverage of live scores with alerts and match stats, including line ups, goals, cards and substitutions, tables, fixtures, top scorers and favorite teams.

This app covers most major league matches from the MLS to the English Premier League. You’ll find details of matches between teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea. In addition to covering all kinds of leagues, including the Mexican League and the Scottish Premier League it will keep you up to date with the Champions League and even international matches.

There are two in-app purchases worth mentioning, one of them is a silver membership which removes ads for a limited time and then there’s gold membership which is a lifetime membership where ads are removed and push alerts are enabled.

There is integration with Facebook, which gives users the option of choosing league chat or match chat which is available as an icon in a live window. One glaring oversight with this app is that there are no women’s football games added to its impressive line up of games and leagues. However, it is very detailed otherwise.

2. The Football Database

The Football Database

The Football Database predicts future football match scores based on historical data. Surprisingly, it is fairly accurate and is used heavily by the betting pools and the sports lotteries. The app does not give live scores like Soccer Scores-Fot Mob. Instead its main purpose is to look at match results from past games and give a prediction for future games.

Additionally, there is a feature which gives you an overview of all matches in the near past. It has the data for over 49 competitions, 2,130 clubs and nearly 180,000 matches. For a small fee the Football Database can be updated and users can get access to international club tournaments and country tournaments like the Champions League or the World Cup. This database does not require an Internet connection.

3. Soccer Livescores

Soccer Live Scores

This Android football app is quite similar to Soccer Scores-FotMob, the developer boasts that they were the first Livescore App in the Android market. They offer live soccer scores, game details, line ups and statistics. The user can add games to their watch list and get notifications when goals are scored.

There is a feature to filter out unwanted leagues and there is an option to have an in-game chat on your screen and Facebook connect. There is also an option to save your favorite teams and to follow their scores. This is a very thorough app for football enthusiasts and it is especially useful for people who want to be kept up to date with matches that are not in their current time zone.

The downsides to this app are really minor, like the length of time it takes to filter your favorite teams. This is as a result of the app being very thorough with the teams listed.

4. Soccer Score Centre

Soccer Score Centre

Soccer Score Centre seems to be pretty thorough in its offerings for football fans. The app allows users to receive goal alerts for their favorite teams and leagues without having to pay for SMS alerts. Other features include text commentary, match previews, match reports, fixtures, football match betting odds, livescore vidiprinter, league tables and the clincher for some fans – football stadium map directions so that you can get to your game easily.

There is full coverage for several championship leagues including the UEFA Champions League and limited coverage for Major League Soccer and others. One drawback with this app is that not all leagues have the same depth of coverage, so if you are attached to one of the leagues that gets limited coverage you may be disappointed. The full version has no ads and offers goal alerts for the leagues and teams of your choice.

5. ScoreMobile FC

Score Mobile FC

ScoreMobile FC provides complete coverage for over sixty leagues and competitions. The features for this app include getting live scores and stats, fixtures, news, video, league tables and betting odds. Major competitions include all Euro 2011 Qualifiers and the FIFA U20 World Cup and the app also covers the major leagues in England, Italy and Spain.

Users can add the widget to the home screen and choose their favorite teams. One issue with this app is the size of the widget on the home screen, it could be smaller and the addition of notifications would make it easier for users to know when there are significant events with a favorite team.

These apps should be pretty helpful to football enthusiasts as they keep up with the beautiful game. Do you have a favorite soccer app for Android? Please post a comment and let us know about it.
