HTC CES 2011 Launch Roundup

HTC was one of the most loyal Android backers when it launched about 2-3 years back. It made some of the best Android devices available back then, and even now, it has some very impressive Android devices. It also backed Windows Phone 7 when it was announced and launched many devices running Windows Phone 7 a few months back.

With Samsung taking the top position in the Android arena, HTC has been relegated to the second position. It still is a force to reckon with, and has released some very nice Android phones yet again, at CES 2011.

Rumors of an HTC Android tablet were floating around ever since the Motorola tablet was leaked, but it wasn’t unveiled at CES.

In this article, I will walk you through all of the launches HTC had at CES 2011.

HTC Thunderbolt 4G Preview

The HTC Thunderbolt was actually announced at Verizon’s press event in CES 2011. The Thunderbolt 4G is one of the first HTC 4G devices on Verizon’s network. It will be launched soon, probably in Q1 2011.

It has some very good hardware specifications. It comes with a 4.3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and comes with 768 MB RAM. It will also have 8 GB internal storage capacity and supports up to 32 GB microSD cards.

It sports an 8 MP camera with an image capture resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels and comes with autofocus and dual LED flash. It can record 720p video and has a secondary 1.3 MP camera. It will ship with Android 2.2 Froyo but should get an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

On the connectivity side, it has 3G as well as LTE connectivity and comes with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA. It also has GPS with A-GPS support. It also has Skype integration for video calling. It is powered by a 1400 mAh Li-ion battery.

It will be launched on Verizon some time around the end of Q1 2011.

HTC Inspire 4G Preview

HTC Inspire 4G 1

Just like the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon, the HTC Inspire is a “4G” phone on AT&T. The specifications are similar to the Thunderbolt and it offers HSPA+ connectivity instead of LTE.

The HTC Inspire 4G comes with a 4.3 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a display resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It has 4 GB internal storage and comes with 768 MB RAM too. It is also powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor.

Like the Thunderbolt, it will ship with Android 2.2 Froyo too but should get an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

It also has an 8 MP camera with autofocus and dual LED flash and records 720p video. It is powered by a standard 1230 mAh Li-ion battery. On the connectivity front, it has GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP. It also has a GPS transceiver with A-GPS.

It will be launched on AT&T’s network in Q1 2011. No pricing details are out yet.

That’s it. HTC showcased just these two devices at CES 2011 and was overshadowed by Samsung and Motorola’s launches.
