Creating a Blog with Drupal 6 – How to Setup Your Site Information
Page content

This is part one of the “Creating a Blog with Drupal 6” series. In this tutorial, I will show you how to setup your site information. The site information is where you will enter stuff like your site name, email, and slogan.

You will need to login to your admin panel of Drupal and click the Administrator link. The link should be on your left. Once you have clicked that link, you will need to click the Site Configuration link and then the site information link. Below I will briefly explain each field.

Name – Of course this is the name of your website. Whatever name you want to appear on the site, enter it in this field. It is required that you enter a name in this field.

Email Address – This is the address where people from the site will contact you. It is best to create a new email account to use for this, so you do not get spammed. This field is also required.

Slogan – If you have a motto or something you want to use on your Drupal site, you can enter it in this field. This field is not required.

Mission – If you have a mission statement you would like to use, type it in this field. Again, this field is not required.

Footer Message – The footer message will be posted at the bottom of each page. This is a great place to enter your copyright information and other information you would like to appear at the bottom of the pages.

Anonymous – When anonymous users post comments and stuff to your blog, you can choose what name appears next to the comment. You can use Anonymous or Guest or anything you want.

Default Front Page – You can create a default front page and enter the url to it in this field. If you just want it to use the recent posts that you add, leave node in the field.

After you have filled in the fields and have your site information the way that you want it. You can click the Save Configuration button to update your information. You can come back to this page at any time and update your site information. This is the first step to creating a blog with Drupal 6.

In the next tutorial, I will show you how to set up your date and time information on Drupal. Continue to the next tutorial of this series to learn how to do that.
