How to Clear Cookies in Google Chrome

Overview

While there are “good” cookies and “bad” cookies, they all serve the same basic purpose: to gather and collect information about you and how you use the Internet. Read on to learn all about managing cookies in Google Chrome, including how to allow, block, see an alert for, make an exception for and how to clear cookies in Google Chrome.

Allowing Cookies

Go to the Tools menu, which is the wrench icon in the upper right corner of the Google Chrome window. Select Options. Go to the Under the Hood tab of the Google Chrome Options window. Click the Content Settings button under Privacy. Go to the Cookies tab of the Privacy dialog box.

Select Allow local data to be set if you want to allow both first-party and third-party cookies in Google Chrome. Select Block all third-party cookies without exception if you only wish to allow first-party cookies in Google Chrome.

Blocking Cookies

Go to the Tools menu, which is the wrench icon in the upper right corner of the Google Chrome window. Select Options. Go to the Under the Hood tab of the Google Chrome Options window. Click the Content Settings button under Privacy. Go to the Cookies tab of the Privacy dialog box.

Select Block sites from setting any data if you want to block all cookies in Google Chrome.

Alerts and Exceptions

If you want Google Chrome to alert you when a site tries to set a cookie, go to the Tools menu, which is the wrench icon in the upper right corner of the Google Chrome window. Select Options. Go to the Under the Hood tab of the Google Chrome Options window. Click the Content Settings button under Privacy. Go to the Cookies tab of the Privacy dialog box. Select Ask me when a site tries to set data. When a site tries to set a cookie, an alert will appear asking if you want to accept cookies for the site.

To create exceptions for certain sites, click the Exceptions button and add, edit or remove sites from the Exceptions list.

Viewing and Clearing Cookies

To view cookies in Google Chrome, go to the Tools menu, which is the wrench icon in the upper right corner of the Google Chrome window. Select Options. Go to the Under the Hood tab of the Google Chrome Options window. Click the Content Settings button under Privacy. Go to the Cookies tab of the Privacy dialog box. Click the Show cookies and other site data button.

If you want to know how to clear cookies in Google Chrome, you have three options. You can remove specific cookies from within the Cookies and Other Data box mentioned in the last paragraph. To remove all cookes, go to the Tools menu, which is the wrench icon in the upper right corner of the Google Chrome window. Select Options. Go to the Under the Hood tab of the Google Chrome Options window. Click the Clear Browsing Data button under Privacy. Make sure the Cookies check box is selected and click the Clear Browsing Data button.
