411 on Biodiversity

Biodiversity has several different definitions, they all sum up to the same facts, the variety of life in all its forms, levels and combinations, this Includes, ecosystem species and genetic diversity. Biodiversity is surrounded by controversies, and debates, everyone has their own idea as to how to preserve the eco system. I want you to get a full understanding of what biodiversity are what it means, what and who it affects, and what all of us can do to protect it.

Biodiversity is what controls and equals out life form on this planet our very existence also depends on this process. Biological diversity is extremely important to the balance and operation of all natural and human-engineered ecosystems. Living organisms play key roles in the cycles of major elements (carbon, nitrogen, and so on) and water in the environment, and the importance of diversity, specifically, in that these cycles require several integrating species.

Species diversity varies drastically across the world- with latitude, longitude, and altitude .The trend toward higher species diversity in the tropics is perhaps the obvious biogeographic pattern in nature, and is sufficiently to have been considered a “rule of thumb”. There are local hot spots of diversity caused by different geological differences, quirks of geologic history, or by mixing of biotas from different provinces.

Affecting Us All

There are so many ways in which biology affects your life. They can range from climate changes (as in global warming). Our planet is already showing many sings that global warming has already taken charge. Such as our average temperatures are slowly rising by 1.4 degrees F each year. Also the rate of warming is increasing at a rapid pace. The Artic seems to be taking the largest of all. Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing. With the possibility of it being completely ice free within the next 30 years. Take for example, Montana’s Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later according to . Coral reefs, which are highly sensitive to small changes in water temperature, suffered the worst bleaching—or die-off in response to stress—ever recorded in 1998, with some areas seeing bleach rates of 70 percent.

Genetic Engineering, also known as cloning also is affected by biodiversity, genetic engineering greatly reduces Biodiversity. Cellular respirations affected as well, and viruses like AIDS and HIV. Even human population growth is considered biology because it affects our food supply and habitable living space. The total amount of people that the Earth can support is the Earth’s carrying capacity

Each and every one of us is personally responsible to conserve the diversity of life on earth, and to protect all of nature’s interconnections upon which we rely. Listed below are several different options you can do on your own, or with other groups to do your part. Together we can preserve what is left, and minimize any further damage to our critical planet.

-Expand public purchase of land and development rights for threatened habitat. Programs such as the Land and Water Conservation Fund will provide critical funds to prevent lands from being developed, as will bond programs across our great nation.

- Establish new and rebuild established Wilderness Areas. Protected areas give wilderness a safe haven.

-Donate to the Biodiversity project at

There are several different ways we can contribute to the safety of our planet and everything that lives on it. We are connected to all the plants, animals, marine life and land life. Can u imagine life with one and not the other? I know I cant.
