Buying a Chariot

When you purchase a Chariot carrier you can choose from several base models. The main component, which comes in 1- or 2-child versions, is sold separately from conversion kits that transform the chassis into different child carriers. Five conversion kits are available. The Chariot can become a swivel-wheel stroller, a jogging stroller, a bicycle trailer, a hiking trailer, or a cross-country ski trailer for your children. With storage space for groceries or day care necessities, the Chariot provides eco-conscious families an alternative way to travel.

The main component folds easily with the release of two levers - making it able to fit in the trunks of most cars. Chariot carriers and conversion kits are available at several online retailers, including rei.com and joggingstroller.com.

Chariot Cougar 1 with Jogging Stroller Kit (5 out of 5)

The Chariot Cougar 1 performs well as a jogging stroller. The converion kit is easy to install and remove. The front wheel on the jogger does not swivel, so it is a little cumbersome to maneuver around corners. The handlebar is in a comfortable position for jogging and the wheels turn very smooth. I like to use the jogging stroller to run errands in town without having to drive between stops. The Cougar 1 comes with a fold-away storage compartment in the rear of the carrier, making it easy to pick up a few groceries or library books. The storage compartment does not get in the way when jogging.

My child is very comfortable in the Cougar 1. She has padded straps to keep her secure, ample foot and head room, and an accessible mesh pocket for books or snacks.

Chariot Cougar 1 with Bike Trailer Kit (5 out of 5)

As a bike trailer, the Chariot Cougar 1 does an excellent job. You may need to take your bicycle to a bike shop to install a piece necessary to receive the trailer hitch. Once this is on your bike securing the Chariot trailer is a breeze.

The bike trailer travels smoothly behind your bike, gliding around corners with ease. Several safety features on the hitch ensure a stable connection. Always be sure your child is wearing a bike helmet in the trailer and install the orange safety flag before your ride.

Biking places with your kids is a great way to save on gas while exercising and having fun. Take the trailer - instead of the car - to the park, daycare, or preschool.

Chariot Cougar 1 with Cross-Country Ski Kit (5 out of 5)

Though you probably won’t be skiing to cut back on gas, the cross-country ski kit for the Chariot Cougar 1 is an amazing way to get winter exercise with your kids. While the kids are comfy inside the Chariot you’ll be getting some fresh air and beautiful views.

Two skis secure to the Chariot where the rear wheels usually go. In the front, long custom-extendable aluminum arms reach from the Chariot to a padded strap that goes around your waist. Pulling the Chariot on skis is not much extra work - the skis glide easily on groomed cross-country ski trails. Stick to flat trails so the weight of the trailer won’t make you lose control on hills.
