Purge Your Home

Begin spring cleaning by getting rid of things you do not need or do not use. Don’t worry about cleaning or organizing just yet. Right now you just need to get rid of all that extra junk. Free Cycle (https://www.freecycle.org/ ) can help you give your unwanted belongings to others in your area. You can donate clothing, shoes, furniture, and other household items to The Salvation Army , Goodwill and/or Planet Aid . When you clean out your food pantry you can donate any non-perishable items to your local food bank.

Getting Started:

Once you have your junk out of your home it will be a lot easier to clean. It’s time to get organized. Start by opening up all the windows in your home to circulate the air and get rid of the stale air that may be in your home. This gives you a chance to clean those windows, too. Use a mixture of white vinegar and warm water. Put this into a spray bottle and use a strip of an old t-shirt to clean the windows with. You can use the same solution to clean your walls. Use a steam cleaner on your floors and your carpets for a germ-killing, all-natural clean.

Organize:

To organize your home you will need the right tools. Everything needs a home; a place where it should be unless it is being used. Try some bamboo baskets , and some eco friendly storage containers . Organizing is simple once you get started. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to systemize your things, especially those things you use every day. Use hooks to hang up jackets and backpacks. Use shelves for kitchen items, bathroom items, and anything else that would otherwise be on the floor. Use bookshelves .

Go Paperless:

Go online with your bills and sign up for electronic billing. This will reduce a tremendous amount of paper that will eat up space in your home, and reduce the amount of trees used to create the paper. You’ll get an email in your inbox when your statement is ready. You can still call in or bring in your payment. You don’t necessarily need to pay online.
