Organic Fruits and Vegetables

You may be already buying at least some organic produce. Organic fruit and vegetables are more expensive, but the risk of chemical contamination of our healthiest foods is reason enough to pay more. Juices are no exception. Organic juices are also a bit more expensive, although I’ve found some great deals on Kroger brand organic juices. Still, if you are health conscious enough to understand the importance of purchasing organic fruit and vegetables, organic juices should be a natural choice.

Organically grown fruits and vegetables have not been sprayed with pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals. Only natural methods of pest control and fertilization are utilized in organic farming techniques. Many people are under the false assumption that fruits and vegetables can simply be rinsed off in order to cleanse produce from any harmful chemicals, but this is not true. Chemicals can easily penetrate the fragile skins of many varieties of conventionally grown produce.

Fruits and vegetables that have thin skins are especially vulnerable. These include all types of berries, peaches, apricots, apples, carrots, celery, prunes, kiwis, potatoes, tomatoes, and any other produce item that has edible skins. Produce is often drenched in chemicals. Never assume that fruits and vegetable are clean because they appear to be clean.

Why Buy Organic Juices?

It’s important to purchase organic juices for most of the same reasons that we should buy organic fruit and vegetables. Really, it’s even more important. At least we can attempt to wash the produce we buy ourselves before eating. We have little control, however, over the fruits and vegetables used in commercially prepared juices. If chemical-laden conventionally grown produce was used in the production of the juice, the juice may actually be more contaminated than the whole food itself, because many pieces of produce are required to make a container of juice. Any contaminates will be concentrated in the juice, therefore making juice possibly even more toxic than the conventionally grown produce itself.
