Why Use A Body Scrub?

Body scrubs are awesome skin exfoliating and moisturizing tools. Your skin will feel softer than ever before after using a body scrub. The exfoliating ingredients in body scrubs get rid of all the dead skin cells and prepare the skin to drink in the moisturizers present in the scrub.

Unfortunately, body scrubs can be expensive, some brands costing $20 or more for less than a cup. Some scrubs contain preservatives and other chemicals that you might not want to put all over your body. The solution is simple. Design your own homemade body scrub, customizing the ingredients to suit your needs and preferences. Why not try one of these body scrub recipes tonight?

1. Choose an Exfoliating Ingredient

Choose your exfoliating ingredient first. This is what will polish away all those dry, dead skin cells. Depending on your skin’s level of sensitivity, you can choose from several different ingredients. Oatmeal is great for sensitive skin. It gently works to exfoliate as it calms sensitive skin. Ground almonds are another good exfoliating ingredient. Grind the almonds to your desired texture. The coarser you grind them, the more effective the exfoliating properties. Finely ground almonds are much more gentle. Raw, organic sugar and sea salt are also great exfoliating ingredients that are perfect if you’re looking to really remove those dead skin layers.

Choose your exfoliant from the following:

(oatmeal, ground almonds, coffee grinds, raw sugar, sea salt)

Fill a sealable container about 2/3 full with your exfoliant of choice.

2. Decide On a Moisturizing Ingredient

Next, choose a natural moisturizing ingredient. The best oils are those that are easily absorbed by the skin without leaving a filmy residue. Jojoba oil is non-greasy, and has a very neutral scent. Olive oil is another great oil to use in body scrubs. The skin seems to just drink it in, and it is very accessible. Most people have olive oil in their pantry. Recently, coconut oil has received a lot of attention as an excellent skin moisturizer. Coconut oil is a solid under 70 degrees, so if you use it, you may need to warm it before use. Honey is another all-natural moisturizer, and can be used along with an oil of your choice.

Choose your moisturizing ingredient from the following:

(jojoba oil, olive oil, coconut oil, vitamin E oil)

Add your oil of choice to the exfoliating ingredient in step 1. You will add enough oil to make a thick paste. How thick or thin you wish to make it is up to you. Add a couple of tablespoons of honey, if you like. Stir well.

3. Pick Your Fragrance

There are many different essential oils to choose from to give any of your body scrub recipes a luxurious scent. Depending on your fragrance preference, choose from lavender, vanilla, lemon, or sandalwood oil. You can even mix a couple of different oils to create your own signature scent.

Add a total of 8-10 gtts. of your favorite essential oil, using more or less to achieve the desired level of fragrance. Mix well.

Seal the lid on your homemade body scrub container, and store in a cool, dry place.
