Here are a few universities that offer Calculus via D/E.
1. The College of Extended Learning at San Francisco State University (https://www.cel.sfsu.edu/calculus/)
- is fully accredited and part of the California State system
- Instruction: Calculus classes are via video lectures, active forums, and guidance/assistance feedback
- Tuition: Student’s will need to contact the school or view the school’s Web site for the latest tuition and fees.
Worth mentioning:
The university says, “[s]tudents will have access to 26 full video lectures streamed at near high-definition quality. Also, 200 short video clips tailored to homework will be available.”
The university has only one available calculus course: Calculus I
2. Shorter University (https://www.distancecalculus.com/)
- is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degrees.
- Tuition - $325 per credit hour. There is an additional $25 “technology and processing” fee for all Shorter University distance education courses. Additional costs: Computer Algebra Software & E-Textbook/Textbook/Curriculum (https://www.distancecalculus.com/costs/)
Available Calculus Courses: Precalculus, Calculus I, II, III, Multivariable Calculus, Probability (Calculus-based), and more.
Worth mentioning:
As the university points out, “[t]here are no formal lectures; the replacement is an amount of communication between student, teaching assistant, and professor that you may not be used to.”
The university also says, “[their] curriculum is a very challenging curriculum, requiring the student to study and engage and learn calculus at probably a higher level than the student has faced before […] Students are required to write - often multiple paragraphs - supplying graphs, tables, numerical values, algebraic expressions - all to “make their case” for the solution of a problem.”
