How to Delete E-mail Accounts in Microsoft Outlook - Intro
Are you wondering why and how to delete e-mail accounts in Microsoft Outlook? You may need to delete e-mail accounts from Microsoft Outlook as you no longer use the e-mail ID. You may also have set a forwarding system to forward your e-mails to another account on Outlook and do not wish to receive duplicate messages. Whatever be your reason, you can easily remove the e-mail account from Microsoft Outlook. This article tells you how to delete e-mail accounts in Microsoft Outlook.
Note: we are talking about removing e-mail accounts from Microsoft Outlook and not about deleting the actual e-mail account provided by your e-mail service provider. Each e-mail service provider has his own ways of deleting the e-mail accounts permanently. In Google mail, you can delete the account permanently using the Settings option. The following steps explain how to remove an e-mail account from Microsoft Outlook and not from the Internet.
How to Delete E-mail Accounts in Microsoft Outlook in Four Steps
To delete e-mail accounts in Microsoft Outlook using the Account Settings window:
1. Open the Account Settings window. In Microsoft Outlook 2003, open Tools menu and click on E-mail Accounts. Click on Change or View Existing E-mail Accounts. In Microsoft Outlook 2007, click on the Office button and click on Account Settings and again on Account Settings. In Microsoft Outlook 2010, click on File and then click on Info. Click Account Settings. A drop down box appears saying Account Settings. Click on it to get the Account Settings Window.
2. The format of Account Settings window is same for Office 2007 and Office 2010. The format of Account Settings window for Outlook 2003 is bit different but has all the options to add and remove e-mail accounts and data files. Make sure you are on the E-mail Tab in Account Settings window. You will see all the configured e-mail accounts, SMS accounts and FAX accounts with the default one selected.
3. Select the e-mail account that you wish to delete and remove from Microsoft Outlook. When you select the e-mail account, you will be presented with four options: New; Repair; Change; and Remove in addition to the location of the PST file related to the account. The New… option allows you to create a new e-mail account. The Repair option allows you to repair an e-mail account that is not functioning properly. The Change option allows you to make changes to the selected e-mail account.
For example, you can give a name to the e-mail account, increase server timeouts etc by clicking on More Settings. As you wish to delete the e-mail account, click on Remove. The option Remove is present in all three versions of Outlook: Outlook 2003; Outlook 2007; and Outlook 2010.
4. Repeat the step 3 for all the e-mail accounts, SMS accounts, and FAX accounts that you wish to remove. Once you are done, click on Close to close the Account Settings window.
