Windows 7 Specifications - How to Get an Overview of Win 7 Info

You can easily check out the basics of Windows 7 specifications - the Win 7 info - when you click on Computer. You can also check out if it is Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit. To get basic Windows 7 specifications, just click open the Computer window. At the bottom of the Computer window that shows you drives etc. attached to your computer, you can see the very basic Win 7 info. Refer to the picture to see where the information is located. This view shows you the information about your computer name, the total RAM installed and the processor name and speed. It won’t offer you information on the edition of Windows 7, pagefile etc.

The first paragraph helps you get the very basic Windows 7 specifications. If you need more information such as - is Windows 7 32 or 64 bit - you can use the System Properties window. For more Win 7 info, right click on the Computer icon and select Properties. You can also open Control Panel and select System to check Windows 7 specifications.

When you are in the System Properties window, the first thing you will see is the Windows 7 edition. This means you will get to know if you are running Windows 7 Home or Student edition, or the Windows 7 Professional edition, or the Windows 7 Ultimate. The System Properties window does not display total Hard Disks and information about other hardware attached to your computer.

Using Device Manager to Get Win 7 Hardware Info

To get Windows 7 specifications on the hardware attached to your computer, you can also use the Device Manager. The Windows 7 Device Manager lists all the hardware components in use by Windows 7. To open Device Manager, press Windows Key + Break key. This will again give you the System Properties window that we talked about, in the previous page. Click on the Device Manager link in the left pane to get Win 7 info about hardware resources available on your computer.

Using MSINFO32 to Get Complete Win 7 Info

MSINFO32 is a built in command in Windows 7 that offers you complete information on the hardware resources and software environment on your computer. To use the command, click on the Run command in Start menu. If the Run command is not available, press Windows Key + R. This will open the Run dialog. In the Run dialog, type MSINFO32 and press Enter.

You will get a System Information window that displays complete Windows 7 specifications. The left pane contains four options: system summary, hardware resources, components, and software environment. The System Summary is selected by default. This view shows plenty of Win 7 info in the right pane. It shows you the Windows 7 edition (Home and Student edition; Professional; or Ultimate edition). It will also show you the Win 7 version build info. If you have a multiple boot setup, the System Summary shows you the other operating systems as well. Among other information this view also displays the computer hardware manufacturer information, Windows workgroup information, processor information, Windows Directory, System Directory, total RAM space, available RAM space, total pagefile size, available pagefile space, and more.

You can expand the Hardware resources by clicking on the + sign against it. This view shows Chipset information under Conflicts. When you expand Components, you will get information about other hardware including the input/output devices, multimedia devices, and more. The Software Environment offers Win 7 info on drivers, Windows services, startup programs, and more.
