Getting a virus on your computer is heart wrenching for any computer user. There are a wide variety of viruses that a user can stumble upon and they will cause a host of problems that can lead to issues for a user.
For many computers that are purchased from a retail store, they come with special system restore discs. These restore discs help to bring the computer back to the factory settings that were shipped when the computer went from the manufacturer to that of the store. Acer systems sometimes come with system restore discs that can be used in case a computer has a virus or in order to bring the computer back to its original state.

Acer, these computers come with a variety of different software discs, such as one that holds all of the computer’s driver software and a system restore disc. A system restore disc holds the original operating system and all the software and applications that came with the computer right out of the box.
When a user of an Acer computer gets a virus on their hard drive, they can use this disc to bring the system back to its original state. Why would someone want to do this? Sometimes a virus isn’t completely removed when an antivirus program has removed it; some viruses are very difficult to remove or make it so that they can not be removed by the normal means. For example, a computer virus that is masquerading as an antivirus program may disable the user’s true and working antivirus program, stopping the user from using it and wiping out the real antivirus protection.
Some viruses can even lock the computer, meaning that the user is unable to do anything with the computer at all. In this case, when all of the normal fixes have been applied and failed, would a user turn to trying the Acer system restore disc. It is very important that a computer user try to rid themselves of the virus by using either their antivirus program or the operating system’s built in system restore function first before turning to a system restore disc because it erases everything.
How System Restore Works
As mentioned, an Acer system restore disc can be used to bring a system back to its original form that came from the manufacturer. A system restore disc is different from the built in system restore function of an operating system as the disc will completely remove everything from the hard drive. You can think of a system restore disc as another form of reformatting a computer’s hard drive. This is the primary reason a user should save this option as a last resort, as it will wipe everything from the hard drive.
Before you use an Acer system restore disc, make sure you have current back up copy of everything on your computer. Be sure to put this copy in another place, such as an external hard drive or secondary hard drive. It is also a good idea to have all the programs and applications near your computer so that when the process is finished, you can begin to reinstall all your programs.
Place the restore disc in your CD/DVD ROM tray and then restart your system. Your computer will go through its normal process of starting, however at some point, it will discover the disc in the drive and ask that you press any key in order to boot from the disc. If you do not get this option, your computer may not be set up to boot - or read - from a CD. This can be changed within your BIOS settings by hitting the DELETE key at the opening screen and then locating BOOT OPTIONS.
When you have allowed for the computer to read from the restore disc, follow the instructions to begin clearing your hard drive. This will ensure that the virus - and everything else - is wiped clean. Again, this method should be a last resort, after all else fails.
