What is Ethical Hacking?

The term hacker is to anyone who uses the internet or manages a network associated with a malicious user who can damage or steal your assets. Combined with the world ethical, some people may look at the term Ethical Hacker and become confused. Ethical Hackers are advanced security analyst who exam their systems and networks for vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Because these security specialists look at the aforesaid flaws and analyze how hackers think, they can protect their networks.

ECCouncil

ECCouncil (The International Council of E-Commerce Consultants) is an organization that manages and develops the Ethical Hacker certification along with other nationally recognized certifications. Eccouncil was founded by Jay Bavisi and Haja Mohideen.

Hosting Hacker Halted across the world, ECCouncil educates professionals on the latest security trends, information and certification. Bringing security professionals together to raise security awareness, Hacker Halted offers training seminars and certification preparation for ECCouncil certifications and other major vendor certifications.

Earning the Certification

The CEH certification is not an easy certification to obtain. You must have several years experience and the real world ‘hands-on’ in order to pass the examination. The Certified Ethical Hacker certification training is a five day intensive course that is one of the most respected certifications that can be earned in the security industry. The training for CEH is intense with ‘hands-on’ that covers all aspects of security including the understanding of cyber-laws and policies as part of 67 (sixty seven) modules in 26 domains. These sixty seven modules cover every imaginable topic that has become a technological part of businesses and life.

While the training can take place at an accredited training provider, individuals wanting to self study and take the exam must submit documentation that shows experience in the computer industry before earning the certification. One cannot truly identify with the complexity of materials covered until they view the list of modules and course description. No exam compares.

All test takers must sign an ethics form prior to taking the exam. Attending dozens of training seminars over the years and taking other exams, the CEH certification is by far one of the most challenging exams in Information Technology. Being 4½ hours long, the CEH certification exam challenges the test taker to one of the most diverse set of questions in network security and defense. The cost of the exam is $250.

Value of the Certification (5 out of 5)

Holding over dozens of nationally recognized certifications, this individual certification is the most valued certification that I personally hold. The certification is not only challenging, it deals with real world scenarios that are used in the workplace today. The Certified Ethical Hacker certification combines the largest set of security technologies with a defensive and offensive approach and methodology to information technology security. ECCouncil delivers a certification that wins hands down. As an IT professional and security analyst, this certification doesn’t focus on any specific vendor product making it truly vendor neutral. It focuses on both sides of the security fence, creating and certifying IT professionals that are an asset to any organization.
