Remove Dead Tracks

When a music or video file is deleted on the computer manually by using finder, the song will still exist in the user library. When the user attempts to access the deleted item, an exclaimation point will appear. Instead of trying to find out if the deleted item exists in the library, there is an Apple Script known as Super Dead Tracks that identifies and asks for the opportunity to automatically delete Super Dead Tracks. I find this a very useful script as I delete huge video podcasts in one swipe to preserve hard drive space. I simply run Super Dead Tracks and eliminate all the deleted videos from my library.

Make AAC Files Bookmarkable

When you download a file off of audible.com, there is the capability of resuming where you left off once you exit listening to an audio book. Podcasts through iTunes do the same things as well. However, you may have an audiobook that is not through audible.com. The good news is that there is an Apple Script for that: Make Bookmarkable. This script will convert the AAC file extension in itunes to m4b format, which is recognized as the bookmarkable file. In addition, if you have iTunes 7 or greater, you can have the audiobook sound files automatically added to the audio book cateogry.

Get lyrics with a simple click

When listening to a song, you may be wondering exactly what the lyrics are. From one click within iTunes, you can view the lyrics of the song. The Apple Script Google Lyric Search lets you listen to music and simply selecting one button to view the lyrics via a Google search. How the script works is actually quite simple. The script will look at the artist and song. From there, the artist and song are searched via Google to get the lyrics. Although this process can be done manually, it saves so much time for just using one mouse click to do the job.

Many More Scripts

There are many more scripts for your choosing. Doug’s Apple Scripts is the largest provider I know of having Apple Scripts within iTunes. To date of this article, there are 456 scripts that are all free. Scripts can be designed for various functions in iTunes: from managing tracks to managing iPod functions. If you are going to have a lot of scripts, I recommend the free ScriptPal application that is from Doug’s site. With so many Apple Scripts, the possibilities are endless.
